I don't blame officials EVER, and I'm not going to start now. But I constantly (like the rest of us) question them which is what I'm doing in this thread.
WE all saw the replay of Brooking being horse-collared on his blitz attempt with no flag thrown, but there were a few other calls, or non calls, that I wanted to see if anyone else saw or had the video on.
1. The interference call on Ratliff. The rules state that you cannot call pass interference if the receiver is behind the line of scrimmage. From what i saw on the one replay they showed Portis was right at or behind the line... Anyone have that replay?
2. The Skins (in the third quarter) tried to run a screen pass to Portis, the ball was terribly thrown, so much so that it looked to me that the pass actually hit a Washington OL in the thighs... No flag on that play? Any one else notice this at all?
3. I am starting to really have a hard time figuring out the intentional grounding rules anymore... McNabb was being pressured up the middle, and while still within the imaginary "tackle box" throws a duck into the endzone with no receiver with-in 10yds in any direction of the pass... Is that not intentional grounding? Even though it made it to the line of scrimmage it was NOT in the vicinity of any receiver, which I thought was part of the rule...?
4. I think this one was during the final drive, and it is very iffy, but considering the call that was made against Newman in the endzone, i think it's fair to point it out. Romo had just completed a pass to Dez for a first down, we didn't call a T.O., ran the next play to Dez up the left sideline again, but the pass was out of bounds. Before the pass goes out of bounds there is contact between Dez and the DB. Granted the ball was uncatchable, but it was at least 10 yards down field and there was contact that by rule is deemed ILLEGAL...
I don't have the ability to go back and replay any of these plays, so i'm working from memory and it is possible that my mind had exagerated some of them from the heat of the moment... But if someone has the ability to find these plays and verify them or refute them, it would be appreciated. I'm not arguing that any of these plays had any bearing on the outcome of the game, but a foul is a foul, and with all the yellow that was flying around the Boys last night, you'd think one or two of these more obvious ones would have been flagged as well...
Thoughts?
