Why are we so afraid of waiting till after the season to pay Romo

So what, he has a big year and we pay him big. We aren't strapped for cash, and we have played all our playmakers before (Roy). Why try to do the short stick now. Romo is not gonna leave the cowboys for free agency. You can bet the cowboys are gonna give him more than fair deal, and leave no reason for Romo to even get close to hitting the FA market.

Because while Jerry seems very confident about Romo, he still sees some risk. I am sure he is willing to do a contract now, but with items that protect him if things go south.

I tend to agree with you, I think it is best to do it now because we should get a better deal now if you believe Romo is the future. Jerry is obviously willing to pay him more if the risk is less.

Ain't skeert is an offshoot of the "Fear This" line of merchandise. It had nothing to do with your spelling.

Translation...I'm not scared. I think we need to see what he can do before we pay him. If he's great we can always franchise him.

Ain't skeert.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me when he gets re-signed as long as he gets signed.

If Jerry signs him to a big contract now and he doesn't play well or gets hurt the team is screwed. If you let him play a few games and show he deserves it then you pay him.

Bottom line, we should wait. He ain't proved NOTHING yet. He shouldn't get paid yet like he has. If anything, throw him a little bonus right now to tide him over til the season is over. Show him we have loyalty, give him a taste of the cake but keep the icing until he's earned it. This ain't a free bakery.

I don't really care when we sign Romo.

I guess I can see waiting, to be sure he's the real deal given his relative inexperience in NFL games.

But I'm already there. I believe the guy is not only worthy of being our QB for the next decade but I also believe he will be a difference maker there to get us a SB win(s).

There are lots of very good players that come through this league. And then there are those that just seem to have whatever it takes to make THE play when it needs to be made. The clutch players, the difference makers.

I firmly believe that Tony Romo is one of those and I could not be more excited about it.

When exactly does Romo's contract expire? At the close of the season or some other date?

If not signed, once Free Agency starts for 2008 he would be a UFA.
