I have a suggestion for Tony Romo

After watching the second half of the 2008 season and now four games into this one I've noticed something that is happening too often now. The ball is slipping out of Tony's hand a sailing high. Tony Romo used to throw a fairly tight spiral in 2006 and 2007. I think his pinkie injury is still bothering him and hinders his grip on occasion. I think this also contributes to his lack of confidence. Think about the pick six he threw in Pittsburgh.

Does anyone remember how well Kurt Warner threw the ball from 1999-2002? He put up record numbers until Roy Williams broke his thumb in a 2002 game. He was not the same QB until the last two years. The difference was he went to wearing a glove to help compensate for his reduced grip on the ball. He went from being Eli Manning and Matt Lienharts backup up to throw for over 4000 yards and leading his perpetually hapless team to the Super Bowl.

I wonder if Tony should try the glove experiment? I've also noticed that his pump fakes are not as good now as they were earlier in his career. If you remember Tony was starting to wear a glove in the 2005 preseason until Bill Parcells told him to take it off.

I know this has nothing to do with his poor reads but does anyone think this might be something for him to try?

That is not a bad suggestion.

I do think something is still wrong with his hand.

Oh come on guys lets get real here. If his hand was bothering him or he had a bad grip on the ball because his pinkie issues dont you think he would of corrected it already? If He has a grip problem and he hasnt done anything about it by now thn He's the dumbest QB in NFl History.

Stop the excuses guys. The only thing that I have noticed is a slow but sure slide in performance in tony since the 08 season. He has not improved. I believe it has been bad coaching which has led to confiedence issues. That's my opinion, not some grip problem or any other excuses.

So all of a sudden he just can't hit an open receiver? For NO REASON? There has to be a reason... lack of confidence, grip issues, or something. Not every reason is an excuse. There has to be something affecting it. He has never missed wide open receivers like this...

I just told you my opinion on why He hasnt improved.

1. LACK OF CONFIDENCE
2. NO coaching of Romo to help him improve his game

Sorry, I missed those in your post... I started from the performance sliding part...

Personally, I think we need some more designed roll outs and movement of the pocket, mixed in with shorter routes from the receivers... Seems like our WR's are always running 15yds down field...

Probably very true.

He probably has smaller hands which hinders his spiral and arm strength in general. Ive seen guys throw a baseball 94 mph and then throw a football 40 yards quacking all the way.

That guy was also 5"10 and couldnt get a tight squeeze on the football. BUt he was deadly with a deflated dodgeball though.

If you were to watch Kurt Warner in his NY Giant years and then watch him at Arizona with the glove and you would swear his arm got stronger with age. I wish Tony would give it a try because the ball slipping as he throws it is making him hesitant.

Romo needs to just pull all his receivers in together, and say "hey guys, get open, because today and from now on when I step on the football field, I'm just gonna throw it around." And then do it.

I don't know about that. Romo has drastically improved his play fakes this year than in the past, if you really pay attention to it. Romo has always had piss poor play action fakes and all that until this year, and it's a world of difference. Aikman said the last game that Romo has prided himself this year on getting better with his play fakes, and it has shown.

There have been several big runs this year that can be attributed to Romo selling the big pump fake and then the hand off to the running back.

They have been getting open. Romo is just either not seeing them, or making a bad throw.

IMO............FWIW.............I think Romo is now throwing to not have an interception. I also think Garrett is trying to harness him in too much. There was a reason Strahan said Romo is very, very dangerous.

TO = Swagga

This offense lost its Swag they look like a bunch of stiffs. Poor route running, Tony looks like a traffic cop behind the line getting people in to position.

I think a lot has changed. Its just too easy to heap it all on the QB. Sure he missed on a couple open guys, name me one QB that hits em every time? Of course all that leads to a lack of confidence.

I don't think ball slippage is the main reason for the high throws. Romo almost always throws off of his heels and he does a lousy job of following through on his delivery. Watch an MLB pitcher when he starts throwing high...he is not following through.
This is probably due to to him hurting his finger and now being gun shy about the possibility of banging his hand on a helmet and reinjuring it.
He needs to get over this. Playing NOT to get injured almost always gets you injured.
