Normally, after a crushing loss in OT in a game our boys had a chance to win, I often transition through a range of emotions (anger, disappointment, despair, etc.) and seek immediate therapy by commiserating with fellow fans on the collective couch of Dr. Norm Hitzgez on the Ticket.

Last night was different. Even during the game itself, I felt no such emotional range - the injuries have taken their toll.

"I have become comfortably numb."

Even though we got 2 key pieces back, one on offense, one on defense (Leary/Mincey), we then go ahead and lose 2 more key pieces (Dunbar/Lee).

"There is no pain, you are receding."

I understand the "no excuses" and "next man up" mantras; I really do. But there comes some imaginary tipping point with injuries beyond which none of these tenets apply. We are way beyond that point - you simply cannot achieve victory by fielding a bunch of replacement players.

"A distant ship smoke on the horizon."

To those of you who insist on blaming the coaches, I just don't understand the logic. I don't think that if you put together the best coaching staff of all time, they could overcome the gravity of this set of injuries. I have been watching this team for over 40 years, and I cannot honestly remember anything like this!

Please consider flipping the perspective 180 degrees. Would the existing coaching staff have won that game last night if we were at full strength? I'd even argue that right now, we'd be sitting at 4-0 if we only had just 1 or 2 of our missing pieces back (Romo being one of them), and we'd be praising the coaching staff like we did last year. But there is only so much coaching you can do with a decimated team, playing 3rd and 4th stringers.

"Hello,
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?"

But the weird thing is, I'm not furious, I'm not hopeful, or excited, because it seems like we just can't seem to get over the injury hump. And even though it's continuing to kill us ...

I have become comfortably numb.

You hit the nail on the head. It's much easier to blame the coaches (especially when it nicely fits your agenda) or a particular player or position group than it is to accept the reality, but the awful truth is that this team is so beset by injuries that It's hardly recognizable. I've been watching longer than you have and I can't recall a year like this, either. I don't know that Landry, Lombardi, Knoll and Shula could be coaches on this team at this point and expect to win.

In general, I've become numb to losses because it's not worth getting upset over.
In my short time on earth, I've experienced things worthy to get upset(emotional) over.

That being said, and back on topic, I agree this team has just suffered too many injuries to be very good in the mean time.
Especially to key players like Romo and Dez.

It sucked but not nearly as much as normal because I never expected us to win this game.

The Atlanta game hurt more, although I didn't expect them to win that one either, only because the offense put up 28 points in the first half and it looked like we were going to run all over them.

Last night was just a loss that was pretty much expected.

This team:

Bad philosophy
Bad players
Bad coach
Bad discipline

The only injury that *really* matters is Romo. He makes the rest of the team go. With him, we could have beaten the Falcons and Saints, and would have at least had a fighting chance against the pats. Without Romo, we can't run, can't get first downs, and the defense is on the field the whole second half. I'm not sure if Dez would have helped us win these last two games (certainly wouldn't have hurt), but I'm pretty confident we'd be 4-0 with Romo

This verse pretty much sums up my life as a Cowboys fan:

There is no pain, you are receding [as a fan]
A distant ship smoke on the horizon [the burning ship of this season]
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying [Jerry]
When I was a child [in the 90s]
I caught a fleeting glimpse [of good football]
Out of the corner of my eye
[As an adult] I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb [because we suck]

I love the Pink Floyd reference. Now if we could just have another brick in the wall. We have more issues. Seems we wouldn't have this many issues in an entire season. But you have to keep playing the game, keep moving forward. If I can see the problems, Lord knows the coaches, owners and players see it. The war has started, let's pick up our shields and push forward.

The Sucky part is when we are doing well, like the first quarter vs the falcons where we are tearing it up. Or Holding it close and have a chance to win at the end like vs the Saints.

That is hard to take at the end.

If you are getting your butt stomped from start to finish with little to no chance during the game that is something different...which we might see vs the pats.

But when you get your hopes raised up it means you have further to fall when it becomes a loss.

After Dez went down it hurt, then when Romo went down I just lost all confidence, I was hoping we would get 2 maybe 3 wins between now and Thanksgiving and I'm still holding onto that hope. The losing of the last two games were tough and probably the only two outside of the Bucs we had a legit chance at winning.

Now instead of expecting a Cowboys win Im just hoping the rest of the NFCE teams stay down.
