For the life of me I can't figure out why there is even an NFLPA. Is it that they are underpayed? Maybe mistreated? Maybe it's the horrible hours and work enviroment they are forced into. And if I have to hear one more person talk about how they put their bodies on the line each week....blah blah blah blah blah.

The need for a union is simple...................to collectively bargin.

The only reason the union decertified was so the players could file antitrust lawsuits. The bad news for the owners is that the draft, franchise tags and salary caps are as illegal as hell without an antitrust excemption.

Just ask yourself if 32 seperately owned and operated tech companies could institute a draft for their collective labor pool, cap salaries across the board industry wide, and prohibit their top employees from seeking employment elsewhere even when their contract had expired.

If that is not an antitrust violation I dont know what is.

Except that the players are trying to force the NFL to do most of those things.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

You really can't figure out why they created a union and collectively bargained things like free agency, salary cap, etc.? If there was no union it would be every team for themselves, and there would be no rules on how many years rookie contracts could be, no draft, etc.

Whatever team had the most money could have all of the top draft prospects every year, and the guys who get paid decently as lower round draft picks right now would get shafted like hell, because owners could lowball them like crazy.

Both sides need to realize that there needs to be some compromise all around, and come to an agreement that is good for both sides.

How old are you, 15? Do you really think the way things are now is the way that they have always been?

The last thing the players want is free agency for everyone and no draft. If supply is high, demand goes down ... and thus salaries would plument.

I'd say to heck with NFLPA ... turn everyone into a free agent ... and see how quickly the NFLPA comes scramling back to the table.

All the players have their own Contracts with Salaries Terms with the Teams so why do they even need a Union. This is a simple joke. The owners should tell the players that you have a Contract and you better honor it or all the Players Contracts will be voided. Good Luck with your UFL or Arena Football Career.

I would be a first round pick but I will hold out and let my dad help me go to the company that I want to go to.

If there's no union, the NFL wouldn't be what it is today. It could not possibly function without it and the owners themselves wouldn't be in business without it.

You want to know why the NFL needs a union ? Sit back, watch what's going on right now, and take notes. No union means no CBA. No CBA, means owners and/or teams will spend 80% of their times in depositions and courts from lawsuits.

What you're saying is precisely why they need a union, so that the NFL can act as "One employer" and bargain details with players that will play for all 32 teams.

If that owner own 50% or more of the market he's participating in, he does NOT get to set the ground rules for ANY labor contract that labor does not agree with.

The union played a large part in getting the players pay elevated to where it is, and the union is who negotiated the revnue sharing arrangment.

I'm no fan of unions, but the reality is that the ability to negotiate from a position of unity is what gives the players whatever edge they have in dealing with owners.
