...a single poster on this forum who thought Todd Haley would be a good OC much less a HC.

Yet his Chiefs are 4-2 and atop the AFC West.

Out of morbid curiosity, how do YOU explain this? (The YOU means anyone who wishes to answer. No one is being called out.)

hmmm, hmmm

I may know of ONE. Granted, a personal 30+ year friendship may have something to do with that.:p:

Advanced search doesn't work...

anyhow he got some good coordinators.

Two guys who were born to be coordinators -- Crennel and Weis.

Haley has some good head-coaching attributes -- is comfortable leading, demands accountability, etc, -- but he's still crazy and it wouldn't surprise me if he loses it at some point.

Coordinators and Scott Pioli.

I almost mentioned ONE person. :)

Im not taking anything away from Haley he seems to be doing a good job and he has a good coaching staff. But the season is young my friend.

No Jerry pulling the strings. Why does no one understand this basic problem?

I think the easiest answer is to look at who he has as his coordinators.

There is a lot that the head coach establishes about practice habits, attitude, discipline, etc., but probably the biggest key to success is hiring the right staff.

OK, I should have read everyone else's responses, then I wouldn't have had to say the same thing.

Hmm ... I'll go with the Parcells connection.

Luck, parity and a weak schedule. Oh, and Dexter McCluster......

Good post

They also have yet to defeat a team with a winning record.

AND I just checked....they only have two teams with winning records REMAINING on their schedule - the Seahawks and Titans. Other than that they play a medley of the league's worst teams (the AFC and NFC West divisions and Buffalo).

geez...

When he started calling plays in AZ that offense was hot.

Plus as others mentioned look at his two assistant coaches..

I will tell you, he has that team believing and it went from probably one of the most slow and nonathletic teams in the league to one of the youngest, fastest and athletic teams in under a year.

They removed many of the vet's with losing mentalities and replaced them with young and hungry players who could care less about recent years.

Todd has a lot of BP in him. He treats a man like a man and takes no BS yet ask any of his players and there is a side you dont see. He is a practical joker and soft hearted. One reason Jerry took a liking to him was that he was the ring leader of the family first atmosphere.

He is also a preparation maniac. He watches more film then any coach I have ever heard about. More then a few times I know he has set up house in the film room before a big game and lived there for days at a time.

Bottom line is he gets the most out of his player and there is a mutual respect.

how was he at Arizona and does 1 season make a good coach?

According to this forum, one season makes a bad coach, so by obvious corollary...

Every no-nothing NFL fan slams the OC or HC---whoever calls the plays.

It's the signature of football immaturity.

Obviously sometimes the criticism is deserved...but 70% of the time it isn't. Red is an imperfect but pretty good coach.

it is quite easy to explain:

* parity. very fine line between winning and losing these days.

* small sample size. jim zorn started 6-2 a couple years ago. does not mean anything.

* coaches input is over rated. games are decided by: better players making better plays, staying healthy and getting lucky breaks.

there are literally hundreds of guys that could "do" what haley has "done" this year.

The Chiefs made the moves they needed to get better. They are not a great team, but they are a good team and will get more and more confident as the season goes on.
