I agree, it would even help the students for their future, after NBA, careers if they have some sort of degree even if they dont want it now. I think ti would be a good idea though.

Growing up a Carolina and Dean Smith fan, I was always big a kids staying in school. They had a great track record there for a long time until the flood gates finally opened.

Then I realized that I was just being selfish....as I love college sports.

But why is it that every single other sport in the world allows kids to go pro out of high school except for American football and basketball?
Mainly it is for one reason--to protect the college game.

I do think it helps a kid to grow up a little more physically and hopefully emotionally by staying in school for a year or two. But it really is not very fair.

Guys like Kobe, Garnett, and Dwight Howard were ready from day one.

If a kid plays baseball, tennis, or golf, for example, he can go pro whenever he's good enough. Same for soccer, hockey, and everything else.

For selfish reasons, I hope they keep them in school a year or two. For most of them, it helps anyway.
But in reality, there are plenty that could go straight in a do fine. if they want a degree they can get it later.
Blasphemy, I know.

Can't really blame the players for coming out early with the huge amounts of money involved, but something needs to be done. I like the NFL requirement that mandates 2 years of college before being eligible. I wonder if this will come up during the NBA/player negotiations.

The NFL rules say that a player must be three years removed from his graduating HS class.

So, if a player isn't eligible and spends a year in prep school, then they can leave for the NFL as a true soph.

Some can explain it better. But it's a three year rule.

Not a two year rule.
