What would a George Pickens contract be like in 2026?

He hates to lose....he doesn't sit around hoping to play bad and lose, just to rub it in Jerry's face. I hate guys like that....I bet you do too.
TO also ‘hated to lose’

Pickens is a headcase who will want targets to produce so he can get a magadeal

If he doesnt get the targets he thinks he should (and headcases always think that) or if the team has a losing streak, he is going to lose it

Giving up a third for this idiot? Absolutely pathetic by our moron of a GM

Youre not factoring in the Schoonmaker bump he's going to see in his production this year that will increase his value.

I'd say there's a better than 70% chance that he's a one year rental.

And all for the price of a 3rd round pick!

Wait. We'll get that uber comp pick back at the end of the 4th but probably the 5th or 6th.

Turning our likely mid 3rd into a bottom of the round 5th for one year where we can't win anyway.

Right now is the honeymoon phase. Everything's great. Everyone is excited to play together and saying the right things but not accepting any responsibility for what happened in Pittsburgh with the media yesterday was your first warning sign that he's the same guy he's always been.

The player can be great but the trade deserves an F grade until further notice.

This is pretty much it.........I'm not sure he can do anything/enough this season that would get him a top 5 contract. He could elevate his value enough to force Jerry's into a tough decision of a long-term deal OR a franchise tag.
But if they slap the tag on him we’ll need 20+ million in cash on the salary cap. Would that be feasible with resigning Micah and T. Smith?

I also agree he won’t be able to prove to the league he’s worth top 5 money and prove he’s mentally stable enough to handle it. Can he undo his reputation and produce at a top 5 level while sharing balls with Lamb? That’ll be tough for him.

I’m still pretty conflicted about this trade. I watch his highlights and get excited and then think we may have him only a year and we are not one WR away from a deep playoff run and I start to think it might not have been a great idea. This season will answer these questions that we can’t answer now. Lol, get yer popcorn ready! If anything it will be fun to watch.

This WILL NOT be an issue for Parsons or Smith contracts .........couple reasons
*** remember most player new contract have lower cap first year or 2
*** the league salary cap will increase a bit for 2026

So tagging him for lets say $22M shouldn't be a problem at all. I'm a 100% confident this option was baked into their decision to make the trade.

Think about it......you are the owner/CEO about to make such a decision carry X amount risk. You will use a teams of expert resources to cover EVERY possible option, outcome and impact. I'm pretty sure they have a plan A, B and C. We may not agree with them but .......

With what Pickens has averaged - 4 years 102 million 25.3 per according to Spotrac -

with some Star boost this year 27 mill and 108 mill

Lamb is at 136 million 4 years 34 mill per

61 million at WR
60 at QB
40 at DE

For comparison

Chase 161 mill 4 years
Higgins 115 mill 4 years.

Looks like a good deal for a 1000 yard receiver
He’s likely a 1 year rental.

His agent won’t pass up the UFA $$$.

They want paid too.

He’s the most purely talented player we’ve traded for since, hell, Charles Haley? Galloway? He’s got more talent than Amari.

As to free agents, you’d probably have to go back to TO.

We complain about Jerry never making a move for big time talent. Well, this is big time talent.

Now we see what happens
dang over amari? interesting. exciting

obviously when dealing with the “one player away” situation the implication is super bowl. what if he helped propel us the conference championship (and then left) would getting that monkey off our back be worthy?

Sure.

Now what are the chances that this team can do that?

The Cowboys are not going to give him $25 million. I just do not see that.

On the other hand, reports have surfaces where many NFL teams supposedly laughed at the idea of a trade for Pickens. His reputation for being a mal-content and a headcase could lower his value substantially. If he causes problems in Dallas his 2026 contract will probably be a 1 year deal for a lot less money.

If he signs with another team at close to $35 million we will be receiving a 3rd round comp pick in 2027. I now it’s a year later and at the end of the round but it’s not losing him for nothing after the rental.
Right, the cost would be like renting a limo all day for 10 bucks. I'm just thinking along the lines of contending for a championship, not mitigating our losses.

I think this might be the plan.

That should net us a 3rd round comp pick if we don't resign him.

I think this issue is being painted with too broad of a brush. IIRC the Cowboys can tag Pickens at the end of this season with the EXCLUSIVE franchise tag, transitional franchise tag, OR original draft pick compensation tag. The transitional tag would be cheaper than the exclusive tags. The original draft pick compensation tag would be even cheaper and he was drafted in the second round by the Steelers.

There may be more options for us than many think there are.
