Logan Thomas, QB - Virginia Tech.

6'6" 254 lbs.

I've watched him play a lot the past couple seasons, and I know his play declined this year, and I know that he's been inconsistent and a bit erratic, but this kid's potential is out the roof. He's only been playing the position 3 years as we he was recruited as a TE. Similar to how Ryan Tannehill, the Dolphins 1st round pick that year, was a receiver before moving to QB. Plus, he had all new receivers and almost an entirely new O-Line this season so it was struggle from the get go. But, if we bring him in and let him develop for a couple years behind Romo, he could be a monster.. the type of player that, if he pans out, could really turn a franchise around. He might not even come out this year, but either way, I really hope we land him. I don't want to take another QB in the late rounds and hope that he pans out. I've researched all the QB's that will be in this year's draft and many of next years top prospects, and other than Teddy Bridgewater, I like him the best. He certainly has the highest ceiling and having the luxury of letting him sit behind Romo for a couple years could do wonders. I hope it happens.

Logan is indeed a stud. Has all the intangibles. I see where you're coming from. If Jerry takes him, I would definitely support the pick.

But why not Johnny Football?

Manizel is destined to be a Cowboy...

Bad decision maker. Right now Thomas looks like a coach killer to me.

As much as I like Manziel, and it'd be really exciting to have him as a Cowboy, I see him being a 4 year college player, meaning he wouldn't even be available to draft until the 2016 draft. Not sure if the Cowboys will wait that long to draft a QB. Romo would be 35 then. Plus, there are still questions about Manziel as a pro prospect. He has just average arm strength, is only 6'1 (maybe a little smaller), and runs a spread offense. I love his athleticism and playmaking ability and it'd be a great story, but I think we should start developing a QB now so the transition from Romo to our next QB will be a smooth one.

Again, he still has a lot to improve on. He certainly regressed from 2011. And. he's only been playing the position for 3 years. But, had he been able to go pro after 2011, he would have most likely been a top 5 pick. That's why I think if he's able to sit for a couple years and develop, it'd benefit him greatly as opposed to being thrown into the fire like he would if he's drafted by a bad team without a QB. His upside alone will most likely get him drafted in the 1st round alone.

there is a lot to be said about having a big QB. Look at how the Rapist is able to shrug a lot of defenders off.

And when you consider our perennial O line problems.....

Thomas has been compared to Roethlisberger by a lot of scouts, only he's more athletic and has much faster straight line speed than Big Ben. Both are big QB's with huge arms, but Thomas has been described as a stand up kid, at least to this point.

He could have gone pro after his 2011 season, which was his 3rd year at VaTech. He would not have been a top 5 pick.

He is in a tough spot. He needs more experience as a starting QB, which he will get by staying in school. He also needs to learn some skills that will be required at the NFL level and he won't learn that at VaTech. VaTech does not develop pro-style QBs. He will have to sit and learn for a couple of years or so once he gets to the NFL.

My mistake. But, according to Mel Kiper, he would've gone that high had he played as well this year as he did last year.

Agreed on your second statement. Playing "Beamer-Ball" for another year isn't going to help him much. I wouldn't be surprised if opts out early and enter this year's draft, especially since the QB group is so weak this year. Only a couple QB's even have 1st round grades. But, I also wouldn't be surprised if he stayed in school. It'll be interesting to see what he does. Either way I hope we take a serious look at him.

Logan Thomas reminds me of Jamarcus Russell. Big, strong guy who can't play QB.

Mel may have been correct in that statement. It would have meant that Thomas strung together two good years back-to-back. That would have not been the case last year and he would have had less experience. Different circumstances.

Logan is a good QB in a terrible offensive system.

He was helped greatly in 2011 by having David Wilson in the back field and 3 veteran WRs to throw to, along with the best o-line VT has had in a decade.

This season he was inaccurate, indecisive and made terrible decisions.

He has the skillset and it would make me sick if he showed up in Dallas and was ruined behind a poor o-line. I honestly think he will do just fine with real professional coaching.

Which is why I expect he will come out this season

Not me. I want a guy who excels at reading defenses and making plays in the pocket but enough mobility and improvisation skills to make plays out of it when needed. Pocket presence is key too.

Really, the guy I want is another Romo.

That's a lazy comparison imo. Both are big QB's with elite arms and good mobility, but Thomas is far too raw to make that comparison. Again, he's only in his 3rd year of playing the position. Once he really develops he could potentially be a monster. Plus, Thomas has much higher character in terms of no off the field issues like Russell did. And from everything i've watched, Thomas has good work ethic and wants to get better. Russell was lazy and didn't like the pressure that comes with being a #1 pick.

rather have mike glennon

I like Glennon a lot too actually. He has a good good arm and great size. Mel Kiper recently said he could potentially be the first QB drafted. But, as much as I like him he's basically a statue in the pocket. At 6'6 and not very athletic, he's a big target and he can't avoid any rush. Without a great O-Line, I could see him struggling.

I like Zac Dysert, but not at the round he will be drafted. This year I'd take a gamble on Aaron Rodger's little brother, Jordan, if he's still there in the later rounds.

I am on board with the Zac Dysert getting stashed for a year of two. He is a pure pocket passer with smarts, better have a good Oline to bring out his talent.
