The Cowboys will go against the powerhouse Jets on 9/11. Oh, so much emotion envolved in that game. As a recently retired Army guy, I personally will feel the same emotion and I am sure you will too!

This will be a day in which Rex competes against Rob. A day that many of the fans in attendance DID witness first hand and impacted personally by the truly tragic events of 9/11 (do you remember where you were when it happened). So many plots and subplots.

Back to the game at hand. The Cowboys finished last year with a record of 6-10. The 2011 season prognosis by most of the 'football experts' that cover the Cowboys locally have them finishing at 7-9 or 8-8 at best. 'They are rebuilding' they say. 'They simply don't have enough talent'. 'They finished last year with a record of 6-10 and have not added any impact players'. 'They have too many holes to fill, 'too many question marks'. Heck, I have even heard this from the national media.

Ok, what I do not understand is if the Cowboys is an average team at best, then why are most so call 'experts' saying that the game against the Jets will be a 'great game'.

Wow, we are mediocre at best! We are simply 'not that good'. Listening to all the 'so call experts' break down our team, we should not stand a chance against a team that went to the AFC Championship game two consecutive years. Aren't we a 6-10 team from a year ago? No more than a mediocre football team with lots of holes? Aren't we at least 4 games behind the Eagles, according to one prominent Dallas sports writer.

How in the HELL can we be sooo competitive against an AFC powerhouse? How can we stand a chance? Last I checked, we are 4.5 point underdog in the Jet's own house, on what by all accounts, will be a very emotional opening day.

Someone please explain this to me. Am I missing something? Well, I guess we will show up anyway!

Your post goes to something i said a few weeks back in that media just treat us a different way. The colts are defending division champs have won 11 or more games every year for the past decade, but I have not heard one media person ask "Can the colts be the 1st team to play the superbowl in their home stadium?" Yet a year ago this time every time a media person mentioned the cowboys it was the 1st question they asked.

LOL. I have seen the movie, no problem....INTERNET FIST BUMP! ;)

It's the first SNF game of the new season, so everyone will be happy that football is back.

Rob Ryan will be on the opposite sideline to his brother, Rex.

Garrett always makes games exciting.

The Cowboys and Jets are both talented teams going head to head. Should be very exciting and competitive.

And oh yeah, it will be ten years after 9/11, with America's team playing the Jets in New York. Emotions will be high, probably as high as the first Saints game in New Orleans after Katrina.

Good points. Yes, ok, America's Team as the sacrificial lame, as always. But, hey, we bring in the ratings...not bad for a 6-10 team. I really think the team is up for the challenge.

Only thing is that it has been 10 years since those events. If it was 2002 I would say just mail in the game. I think we will be fine. If we lose I of course will blame it on the anniversary but I don't think we will.

I agree. For some reason, call it silver and blue shades, but I think we will pull this one out. However, if we do, I will be very worried about the following week in SF.

First things, welcome to civilian life once again. I hope that you were given a transitionary period by service prior to release. Second, as I finished and others on site, have done before you similary, the change is different as people about you will be responding differently now. Values aren't presented in standard and supportive in the same way...but here and now, thank you for having served. There is a large group of Veterans on site, as you probably have garnered now.

But as to the Cowboys, when they are given a primetime game slot...the Dallas Cowboys almost always show up for that game. Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones have been cutting and filleting to get at a corp of motivated and aggressive players. When that type of a player is given a challenge, the neck hairs bristle and the spine stiffens.

Facing a team that was within a few points of the Super Bowl last year, will bring team focus all the way through this new roster. The offense lost only six starters from this past season, so they will be paying attention to detail, and are a hungry group. They have produced bushels of field movements and scores in the past. But were inhibited by a stationary and now old offensive line. They now have mobility and edge dynamics.

It's true that the Jets had a very strong team last season. Their record speaks for itself. They addtionally added some dynamics with new players during the off season....but they still have to come together as well, this season.

Sometimes, with a dynamic and emotionally laden head of team, the emotions and focus take a second hand focus, and when the season kicks off, inertia of sitting and waiting has to be overcome.

The face off between brothers does bring a lot of pressure. But I feel that the largest will be felt by Rex. As he is sitting at a place of more view due to his team already having arrived at a top rung in the league. But the challenge between brothers is going to reach the field as well. And as most leaders know, motivation is a high octane element for the younger members. And that will add fuel to the Cowboys and a very young offensive line. That youth will be able to respond more easily to an emotional and flammable element.

Then there is emotion created by going away, and adding in a fight or flight element to the Cowboys. They may respond more with football instincts, and actually help their cause.

With Jason Garrett, who has started to add the elements of accountability and discipline to how that aspect is focused, and with the youth, but high skills available to the offense....I think that first game will reflect a strong and positive nature for these Cowboys. They still have a lot sitting in their crawls, as to the veterans on the team. And that is a strong motive in veterans as well. This team is ready to play! And that element will be hitting the carpet this coming game on Sunday. It just so happens that the game, and the team, is high profile. So be it!:starspin

Oh, and the fly by will bring a tear to this Veteran's eyes...

No doubt about that. By the way, thanks for your service, too.

Spoken like a true vet, who happens to be a die hard Cowboys fan. VERY well said. :)

2 things will determine this game from our side:

1) our defense
2) our OL

if these 2 hold up, we will have a good chance against the vaunted jets

If we do, it will be one heckuva game played by the Cowboys. If Wade was still our HC, then yeah, I'd be worried about the following SF game. Since he ain't, that is one game I will not be worried about b/c Jason will have the Cowboys ready to play.

I just don't get why it wasn't a Giants vs Jets game in the first place. Both teams open their new stadium at home on the 10th anniversary of 9-11.

Yeah, that make a lot of sense. That would have been an awesome thing to do.
