Too often they try to get these publications out early. Which means they don't have the Combine info, making them fairly inaccurate. You can usually tell by checking someone who had a lights out 40 score at the combine not showing up in the magazine info.
Honestly, it should not matter that it does not include combine information.
If you want that, there are many places you can look it up.
I would rather read a scouting report that discusses what they actually did that matters on the field.
As for the two in this discussion, they are a mixed bag.
Lindy's is basically a watered-down regurgitation of what you find on NFL Draft Scout. It is okay to have laying around just to pick up and thumb through.
The Sporting News is an odd one. Russ Lande is a former scout, but he has some grades that are far from the "consensus" you see in most places. He was one of the few that was not projecting Quinn as a top 5-10 talent and actually ranked him as a second round prospect. Turns out how he plummeted, he was kind of right. I bought that one simply to see who he dinged the most and thought the least of in terms of the major prospects. He did a number on Oregon OL Max Unger, he basically said he might not even be worth drafting. That's one to keep an eye on.
Pro Football Weekly's magazine is not as good as the book, nor is it anything like it used to be back when Buchsbaum was alive.
Neither are as worthless as the one Street and Smith put out a few years ago. It was horrid and thankfully isn't published anymore. ESPN's was big and detailed. I have no idea why they have not put one out for two years.
