He's staying at my hotel for Apple Blossom Festival, IIRC he's this year's Sports Marshall... he came down at about 5:15 AM to get a workout in in our Fitness Center... nobody was around, and I didn't know it was him-- at first...

He was wearing an Oakmont golf cap, and Steelers shorts, of course I still didn't put it together... I struck up a conversation with him about what a brutal golf course Oakmont is, and relayed my experiences volunteering as a marshall on the first hole back in the 80s when the Open was held there... he told me he'd played it, and talked about how sadistically deep they keep the roughs there (I thought they only did that for the Open, but no)...

I was getting ready to put out the Express Checkout folios, so I asked him if he was checking out today... he said yes, and I asked him what room he was in, thinking I'd go ahead and give him his Express Checkout folio, save myself that much time... it was only when he told me his room number that I figured out that who I was talking to...

I got to shake his hand, we exchanged a few pleasantries, then I decided he wanted to work out, so I'd get out of his way... heck of a nice man, with a beard these days that's almost as grey as mine is... he's workin' the treadmill even as I type this...

Of course, he won't be getting an Express Checkout folio, his bill is direct billed to the festival... LOL...

That's cool. I always thought Ham was a great LBer. He seemed to get overshadowed by lambert but I thought he was the more complete player. Lambert was just a mean SOB.

If you mention "great Steelers linebackers", you're gonna have to be more specific, 'cause that's a pretty long list...

Screw the Steelers and everything they stand for. :bang2:

The Steeler fans that I am constantly surrounded by have completely caused me to loathe everything Steelers. Actually, because of these very fans, I loathe every sports team relegated to Pittsburgh.

:steelers: :puke:

Sorry, not trying to ruin this thread or to get too off topic. It's always kinda cool to run into somebody famous. Especially if they are down-to-earth and pleasant.

I would agree with that assessment. Some teams always seem to have great players at certain positions and the Stealers tend to find outstanding LBs.

Pretty cool to meet former players even if they did play for an enemy team. I met Joe Jacoby once and shook his hand as I was telling him how much I hated him. His puzzled expression turned into a grin once I explained that I was a Cowboys fan. :D

I think you should have run over to the treadmill and kicked him in the nuts.

glad you got to meet him bear, but i still cant stand those steelers to this day, they played dirty and they know it, just like when their mel blount speared one of our wrs in the ribs (golden richards, as you know golden richards paid mel blount back a year or 2 later, and left mel blount screaming on the ground and as you know, chuck noll didnt like it the big baby) wiht his helmet and cracked one of his ribs, the ref was standing right there and didnt do nothing about it, and chuck noll said quit crying like babies

but when the cowboys spear lambert with the helmet by scott laidlaw, best i remember that was the cowboys rbs, chuck noll cried foul, and had a rule put in to not let a player do that again;
the whus noll, as long as his players could dish out punishment, that was fine and ok, but if you did the same thing back to them, foul
the whus noll

so i cant stand the steelers to this day,

That's strange, I had the exact opposite experience when I was golf pro at a club up near Pittsburgh back in the early 80s... naturally most all of my members were Steelers fans (and many of their names ended in "ski", LOL), but they were to a man pretty cool about it...

Sorry, not trying to ruin this thread or to get too off topic. It's always kinda cool to run into somebody famous. Especially if they are down-to-earth and pleasant.

Aw, I understand... no need to apologize... I hate the Steelers too, I just don't hate their fans...

In fact, I playfully told Jack that in a younger day, I hated him too... he got a laugh out of it...

I'll tell you one thing, the guy was a lot skinnier than I thought he'd be... I mean, he was lean and trim...

But I have more hair than he does, so I felt a little better... :D

You might be right, I haven't had a good butt-kicking in some time now... I might be overdue...

I'm sure you could get a few posters in here to agree to that last sentiment (maybe more than a few, actually)...

now joe jacoby, i respected as a player, to me, he didnt play dirty like lambert and mel blount did, doesnt mean that i liked jacoby, since he was a Commander player, cant stand the Commanders either;

Most hated teams by me
1. Commanders
2. Steelers
3. Packers
4. 49ers
5. Giants
6 Eagles

all of those teams are about equal in that i dont like them, i dont hate hate them you know, i just dont like them.

Silverbear! What's wrong with you? This was an excellent opportunity to grab pen and paper, his room keycard and some mints. You could have laid the mints on his pillow, with a note that said, "Here are some steroid flavored mints. Come visit us again soon". :)
