Anyone have any ideas who we may go after in free agency after the season? I am not even sure who will become available, but I know that we will add one or two impact players in the offseason as we ascend into the upper echelon of contending teams.

Any ideas Cowboy faithful? :star:

Well I keep hearing people talk about signing a FA center. I just don't see that happening. #1. Johnson hasn't been the car wreck most people think. And remember this is only his second year. #2. We already have huge dollars tied up on the OL. Unless we traded Flozell or LA retired I don't see another expensive contract there.

Very true. I read on an Iggle's board that they might go after Reggie Wayne in the offseason.

OK Mr Winicki...what position do we sign in FA?

Evening Michael :)

I think FS and LB. Those are positions that are relatively cheap to fill in FA, I say RELATIVE to a lot of other positions. Hopefully a kicker too. There really aren't a lot of positions I have concern about. Solidifying the OL and adding depth to it are my biggest concern. If we can maintain a good OL, keeping Bledsoe upright and JJ/MB room to run, we can be contenders.
I think we use the draft on an OL or two.

How about a FB? We haven't had a good one since Moose.... That and FS are the only two that I can think of.

I think we should go after a kicker if a good one is available.

Otherwise, we should only shop pretty selectively because there aren't many gaping holes on the roster.

A bigger priority would be getting Fujita re-signed.

If we can get a serious upgrade at center, go for it. Johnson has not impressed me this year- I think he has regressed from last year.

#1. Center. We need a GOOD center. Al Johnson is average on a good day. And you don't need to spend "Mega bucks" to get a good center.

#2. Veteran FS. Not necessarily a superstar, but someone relatively young with experience to come in and compete for a starting spot. Someone better then Izelle Freakin' Reese.

#3. Maybe another pass rushing LB. Probably better to get one late in the draft though. Someone who can play special teams and occasionally give Ware a breather.

#4. Another ILB. Someone who is physical and has some size. Right now we only have 2 guys that fit that description (Fowler and James).

I think Reggie Wayne would be a nice pick up. Maybe Coleman FS Houston.

I'd almost bet Burnett moves inside during the off-season. Him next to B. James would be awesome. Creating a need for vet OLB and draft pic.

Evening Pops.

I like what Ght187 said, which is true. Safeties and Linebackers are relatively cheap in FA. WR's too. Let's concentrate there and draft OL and a DT.

I would like to go after a great kicker...boring I know. I just want to feel as comfortable as possible about that position. I think Vanderjagt is going to be a FA next year, but I'm not sure. I'd rather have a proven veteran at kicker, than another rookie from who knows where.

We've done it before with Eddie Murray.

This isn't a Super Bowl team yet. There are definitely holes to fill. More may crop up as the season progresses.

If the team goes FS, I like Chris Hope from Pittsburgh. I have a sneaking suspicion that the team doesn't really value the position though. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see the team go to camp with Pile/Davis/Beriault and maybe a later round draft pick.

The value in FA this year is at OL IMO. Steve Hutchinson, Jeff Backus and LeCharles Bentley are all FAs. What are the odds they make it to FA? Probably not great. However, if the team decides not to keep LA around (and he does have a pretty big roster bonus coming up), G becomes an immediate priority.

There are some decent kickers available, but I hate paying kickers.

I think LB, WR, OL will probably be the priorities. I'd also take a look at TE, FB, CB and NT/DT although they aren't as pressing.

Some names in FA I like:
Ma'ake Kemoeatu
Larry Tripplett
Chris Hope
LeCharles Bentley
Steve Hutchinson
Verron Haynes

Resign Gurode and Campbell.

Kalimba Edwards would make me happiest. I think he could be very good as a 3-4 OLB. He has 6 sacks as a situational DE this year but is still too light to play the run in the 4-3

Chris Hope would be a good add as well at FS

Jeff Ireland going BPA for the whole draft would be alot of fun.

The O-line depth in this years draft makes it more likely for there to be some decent free agents available.

With a young team on the rise signing lots of big name free agents would be detrimental to the team IMO. Look at Washington a few years back.

I think a kicker and maybe LB depth would be good while sticking to the draft for O-line and receiver.
