I Know We're Going to Rest Players

And I agree with that policy very much. There's nothing left to play for in the regular season as far as seeding. But I will admit, there are some milestones that I would love to see hit.

Our best season for wins was 1993 when we finished 13-3. I would love to put that 14th win on the board.

Marion "The Barberian" Barber needs only 19 yards to get his first 1000 yard season. I think he will get that record.

Tony Romo has already set the passing yardage and TD records for this team. If he attempts 30 more passes he will hold the mark for most attempts in a season. He only needs 6 more completions to hold that mark. I'm not sure if Roger Staubach's 1971 team record QB rating of 104.1 is within reach or not, but Tony is at 99.4. Could a great game give him that mark too? 4 TDs would give him 40 for the year, a magical number in my mind.

Jason Witten needs only 6 catches to have 100 for the season, only the 2nd time in Cowboys History that has happened and 2nd only to Michael Irvin's 111 in 1995. It goes beyond that though. If he caught 8 more passes he'd tie the NFL record of 102 catches by a TE, set in 2004 by Tony Gonzalez. Obviously, 9 more would set a new record. Will he get it? Probably not, but I'd sure like to see it.

DeMarcus Ware at 13.0 and Greg Ellis at 12.5 are both within reach of Jim Jeffcoat's unofficial team record of 14.0 sacks in 1986. Tell me you wouldn't like to see Collins on his butt 5 or 6 times, most of them by these 2 guys. Of course you would.

2 INTs by Anthony Henry could move him all the way up to a 5th place tie with Don Bishop all the way back in 1961 with 8. I admit it, I'd like to see him get there.

Emmitt Smith's 1995 team record of 150 points scored is safe, but Nick Folk only needs 3 points to move into 2nd place all by himself. That probably will happen unless we goose egg a game. I doubt that happens.

So, I understand and agree on resting the players and getting them ready to face the playoffs when the Divisional Round comes to Texas Stadium, but a part of me would sure like to see the team and players reach these milestones. It would make a very memorable year even more memorable. It's been a hell of a ride.

Great post, Hos.

Of all those records, I would like to see Witten break the single season TE reception record.

I don't care how they feed him the ball. :D

Heck, they can throw him a couple screens to help him get it!

The other milestone I'd love Romo to get is 40 TDs in one season. It's a magical number.

Well, either of these records is going to be difficult to achieve, esp. with a lot of the guys only playing the 1st half.

Jason Witten was asked about this on the Radio on the Norm-athon yesterday (Jerry Jones was in on the interview as well). He said getting 6 more catches would be great but it was up to Wade Phillips.

Note:Did you guys know that Jason is his middle name? His full name is Christopher Jason Witten.

Personally, I do not want to see those guys play much in a very meaningless game.

If he gets 6 catches, let's just throw him 3 TE screens and get him the all time NFL season record! :D

But seriously, I think Witten only plays the 1st half, and then we'll see a lot of Fasano.

I've noticed that Fasano has been getting involved in catching passes and is getting passes thrown to him the past few games. It's great we are utilizing him more and more.

Yeah, Fasano is a very good player. Will be interesting to see if he stays in Dallas.

If Witten does play, since Terrell Owens is out, they are really going to key on him.

That is assuming that Terry Glenn doesn't have much of an impact on the game.

I heard one report this morning that Barber will see very little action in this game. How much is anyone guess but expect key players not to get much time

Gotta admit, I'd like to see a 4 TD, 6 sack, 2 int, 9 catch performance by Romo, Ware/Ellis, Henry (or Newman), and Witten respectively. Throw in a couple field goals for the rookie kicker and a win to boot...and I'm a happy camper.

All good.

BUT... the only thing that matters is being the first to 6 SB's. "One for the other thumb"

I have to disagree, I don't believe these milestones in particular hold much meaning.

Having said that, I've slowly come around to the thinking that we really need to play this game to win. I'd still rest the walking wounded - just about anyone on the injury report, but I'd play Romo into the second half and play the starters through the game.

Let's end the Commanders' playoff hopes on Sunday, and if we get some of those milestones you mentioned in the process - even better.

The milestones are nice, but only if it's accompanied by a SB trophy.

Same here. That's the only one that matters to me, because it's a league record.

Technically, it was the 1992 regular season (1993 Super Bowl) when we finished 13-3. We finished 12-4 in 1993.

The individual stuff is great but it does start with another Lombardi for me also.

I think there was an article where Wade said the he's going to try and get some of those milestones, like the Barber one and I think he said something about Witten.

But if the starters played this whole game I would be that most of those would happen...

What a trip it's been!!

;)

What i would love to see is the Cowboys come out looking sharp. I feel like we have not seen that in a few weeks. I do think the individual records would be nice, but i am afraid that the Skins are going to come out looking to kill and the Cowboys looking to pad stats.
