In 1988 the Cowboys were reeling in Tom Landry's last season as the Cowboys Head Coach. It was obvious that the Cowboys needed a QB in the worst way. I don't know if I would call going 3-13 lucky, but for the Cowboys it sure was.

Waiting at the end of the rainbow was Troy Akiman.

If fate had done this to us in the 1987 season we would have these QBs to choose from.

Tom Tupa (3rd) and Chris Chandler (3rd). The best QB in the class would have to go to either Chandler of Stan Humphries (6th).

If fate had waited one more year to smile on us we'd have had our choice of these QBs.

Jeff George (1st) and Andre Ware (1st). Perhaps Neil O'Donnell (3rd) or Scott Mitchell (4th) were the best of class.

Yep, I'm glad fate smile don us when she did. Thank you Troy Aikman.

Wow...that's scary...whewwwwww.

I guess you could add Emmitt into that mix as well with the runners that were taken in the same draft as he was in '90.

She smiled on us the last game of that season when Al Del Greco missed a chip shot field goal against the Packers and thus making them the second worst team where they ended up with Tony Mandarich.

Man, the more I think about it the more I realize how right you are.

There's no telling how any of those QBs would have done in a Cowboys uni and with some tuturing from Norv Turner, but I see your point. Thanks for the memories, Troy!

Me not being a BIG Troy Aikman fan I think a couple of them QB's could have done just as good as Aikman did.

Troy was exceptional. None of the others mentioned were even close to exceptional.

Just as good? as in 3 SB? I dont believe so.... or perhaps you were thinking they would have won more than 3 with one of the others mentioned

The team you land on and the situation you're drafted into has a huge influence on how your career pans out.

My point is that we don't know what an Andre Ware or a Scott Mitchell would have done with Norv Turner, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, and our stellar O-line.

Just like we don't know what Troy Aikman would have done if he was drafted by Phoenix. If he spent his career as a Phoenix/Arizona Cardinal, my guess is he wouldn't have been too "exceptional"...

And this is coming from a HUGE Troy Aikman fan. I'm just being realistic (or trying to be). Not taking anything away from Troy at all... the same could be said for any great QB.

None of them had his accuracy or work ethic I seriously doubt any of them could have done well here.

Norv still hasn't found his next Aikman.
