Being undefeated and beating the Cowboys, who think they have a decent team, at home will bring about that natural opinion. If they make it through their first 4 games at 4-0 or 3-1, they could be in shape to really build some confidence.
Teams that win think they have a great team...teams that lose start to realize differently.
We're all sitting here thinking we have a good team and that the Washington loss was a fluke ending.
However, had we lost to the 49ers, a very real prospect even late in the game, we'd be sitting here at 1-2, with losses to the lowly Commanders and 49ers. I wonder what we'd be thinking about our team in that scenerio that almost came true.
If the Skins win this week, they have every right to crow at 3-1.
If we win today, we'll be 3-1 and have every right to crow as well.
If we lose today, we'll be 2-2 and the signs that we'll be back and forth all season, hovering at .500 or 1 game better, will be a realistic possibility. It's a tough road game, but I think today's game will either fuel the idea that we'll finish at 10-6 or better and in the playoffs....or we'll be struggling all season to get ahead in the win column....a loss today would further convince me that 8-8 or 9-7 is the best we can hope for. That would certainly be an improvement over the past season, especially with all the youth.
However, I'd prefer going to 3-1 today and start dreaming of a team that takes off as it matures and finishing at a point where we could beat anyone as we go into the playoffs.
A realist knows that either scenerio is possible.
