Opposing O facing 3rd and ~15... we rush 3 or 4 guys and everyone else is simply waiting at the 1st down line.

QB is essentially forced to take what we're giving him and pass it underneath. Then Marinelli's Madmen fly to the ball downhill and gang-tackle the receiver short of the sticks.

It's pretty much impossible to get the 1st down after the short catch because you've got 7-8 guys all watching the ball and running downhill to take you down.

Even if you set up a screen, how are you going to block everyone? Hell, forget "everyone"... how are you going to block even half of them?

It's so brilliant in its simplicity that I'm surprised more teams don't do it. It almost seems too good to be true, and I wonder if/when an opposing O comes up with an equally brilliant counter.

I love that too. The way everybody lines straight across the first down sticks, Marinelli is doing some good things

It is simple but needs a lot of speed from the backfield , since we are rushing only 3 in most cases several line men are free to go to 2nd level and block , a good screen play with a bulldozing TE/FB with a couple of blockers in front will be tough to stop.

Like everything else, the longer opposing coaches have time to study the film, we'll see plays/patterns designed specifically to defeat this alignment. Probably something like 1-2 man routes with a lot of downfield blockers.

Yes, but then Marinelli will just need to counter and adjust. Chess game sort of.

It really freaked out the Texans the first time they saw it. Fitz was like WFT?

That was great.............LOL

Can't get to QB to sack him, might as well do this.
The announcer said..."Cowboys are in a prevent"....but I guess it is a prevent type defense at that point. But I don't think he was aware of what was really the alignment was about. But a lot going on, so understand that. no time to explain it i guess at that moment.

Not only that, if you try and wait long enough to make a long pass down the field, the rushmen are probably going to get to the quarterback first. Or force him to scramble in front of the line of scrimmage, which again leaves 7 to 8 guys to run him down.

It's so simple it makes you wonder why other teams don't do it.

Go ahead and keep doing that, but you better make dang sure that you pursue hard and tackle.

Delayed flea flicker would be a counter to that package. Suck up all the defenders waiting at the 1st down marker and toast them with a pass over their heads

Not saying teams will start employing this, just something to consider

They almost got it a couple of times on a draw play.

This and pick plays are the only thing I can see breaking that D. Bubble screens to the outside could possibly be exploited with adequate blocking and one broken tackle. I like it so far though, keep it up until an opponent counters.

That's a pretty good post, right there...

I would run that play that the Chiefs do that is like a downfield screen pass.

You can get a convoy of blockers right after the receivers catches the ball.
