I love the improvement in the RedZone

It seems like the cowboys score alot more TDs in the redzone this year than in previous years. I hope they keep it up.

One has to believe the changes and improvement to the interior offensive line has to be the main reason. We've had decent success running the ball in the red zone, where as before we were horrendous.

We're 3rd in RZ TD% after 7 games, after ranking 20th each of the last two seasons.

Rushing-wise, we have 5 TD in the red zone, compared to 7 all of last year.

Passing-wise, we have 11 red zone touchdowns, after having 15 all of last year. Almost one-third of all passes thrown in the red zone have resulted in a touchdown. Last year it was only one-fifth.

Red Zone TD Receptions
2013 (34 targets, 11 touchdowns)
Bryant 6 of 9 5 td 0 int
Witten 3 of 8 3 td 0 int
Williams 4 of 5 2 td 1 int
Beasley 3 of 3 1 td 0 int

2012 (75 targets, 15 touchdowns)
Bryant 9 of 14 4 td 0 int
Witten 8 of 14 3 td 0 int
Austin 5 of 13 2 td 0 int
Ogletree 6 of 8 2 td 1 int

We're also getting to the red zone more often than last year. Our 25 red zone possessions is 5th in the league. We ranked 24th in 2012.

Beasley is almost as dangerous in the red zone as Dez. His quickness is great and he is very elusive in the open field. I'd like to see him as part of an an empty backfield package featured with Dez, Witten, T-Will, and Escobar. All have soft and bring a different element of weaponry to our offense.

Very nice options to have for our QB to throw to. They'll only improve as the season as the season wears on.

Nitpicking a bit, but I still think it could be better.

These stats are great and a big improvement. However, I hate the field goal zone (or whatever you want to call it) performance. Dallas seems awful at the 40-30 yard line range. Garrett is somehow afraid to let Bailey attempt long field goals and he's obnoxiously conservative in going for it. Those net 25 yard punts that also equate to a loss of a scoring opportunity drive me nuts. And it's not just because I have Bailey on my FF team... Give me a guy like PSU's Bill O'Brien who almost always goes for it on the plus side of the 50. Barring a small subset of game situations (leading or tied near the end of a game) there is overwhelming statistical evidence pointing towards going for it. And when I see Room take a sack to knock us back to the 34 yard line, I cringe at the thought that we've even wasted a FG opportunity.

Sorry I would rather pin a team back than to give them field position. Going for it is not a smart move it is what teams who have no chance do

Of course it could. We could just score a TD every single time.

Some of you truly are not happy unless you're unhappy.

You got that right. Lose and people go crazy win and it was no big deal. We are much improved in getting turnovers but then we don't count games like the Giants because we got too many? lol

Now we are seeing a dramatic change in redzone but not good enough even though we rank 3rd in the NFL. lol

On the turnovers, to be fair, it is annoying that we were even in each of our losses I think. It tells me that we are not as good as we think we are, if we are not winning when we are even or better on the turnover differential.

I just don't like the way we operate in the redzone, regardless of if its working right now.

To be fair this defense failed to create turovers under Parcells, Wade and Ryan yet now they are to be fair these guys are hustling to the ball they creating these take aways not standing around missing oppertunities. If they continue to do this we will win more games than not. This defense is now 7 games old and learning and doing so with a lot of no name players. I take Kiffin and Rod over than blow hard Ryan any day of the week, he did nothing in Dallas but talk aggression yet we were not we sat in 3 man fricken rush in 3rd and long situations. I never like to slam past coaches but hearing some rue over Ryan for what? he did nothing here!!!!

I agree with everything here, I am loving that we are producing turnovers and not turning it over a ton ourselves. I just wish it was leading to more wins!

Yeah I love how we are operating in the endzone. Protecting Romo and putting it into his hands, and on occasion actually running some power football.

I think it will. Yes we lost to KC and Denver 2 damn good teams we also loss to a chargers team that was a disappointment but we were in those games even Denver where no one gave us a chance in hell to win. This defense is learning and I think gaining more and more confidence as they go. Had someone told me going into Philly we would give up 0 TD would you have believed that? We can say well Foles had a bad day but part of the bad day was because of the defensive play and holding any NFL team to 0 TD is hard to do.

I just think we tend to overthink things and get too cute. I have concerns about how that will work in December.

It works because the execute there is nothing cute about what they are doing. Dallas has scored rushing and passing in the redzone. If they continue to excute it will work in Oct, Nov and Dec as well as beyond.
