But david akers is 32-38 this year, and our david buehler, is 24-31......I understand that buehler's may have been more costly, but he's just one off of one of the better kickers in the league!....But also consider that maybe akers team may have been better at bouncing back from his misses than we were with our kicker.
I like the fact that dallas has brought in competition, but getting a kicker in the NFL isn't easy....remember how nick folk was lights out and now he's just as bad as buehler!
Buehler has leg strength and he has ability to chase down and tackle guys(which helps but he shouldn't have to) and he's young so if he can improve for us and be clutch for a good 8 seasons or more that would be great!
Just a little observation i made.

Kickers can take a few years to develop. I say bring him back next year.

Buehler has to prove he can kick outdoors. No, kicking at Cowboys Stadium or Cardinals Stadium with the roof open doesn't count as outdoors

Bring him back with an insurance plan in place.

They signed Brown the kicker to compete with Buehler next year.

Buehler will get one more year to prove himself, which is a good move IMO. Jerry doesn't want shell out big bucks again on a kicker, after getting burned with the Vanderjagt signing a few years ago. Young kickers go thru growing pains. With Buehler's rocket leg I would want to make sure I've given him every chance to be the kicker. Plus Jerry did sign Brown to compete with Buehler next year.

Buehler can frustrate the best of coaches and fans even. But let's not be in such a hurry to cut him. Akers has been around a long time. Was his development path the same as Buehler. Was he kicking field goals perfectly in his first few years on the job.

Several years ago we got rid of Cundiff with the blessing of fans, because he struggled kicking field goals and wasn't built for touchbacks. This year he led the NFL in touchbacks for the Ravens.

Folk after a great season struggled and understandably was cut in 2009, fans were all on aboard with that. He has turned into a very reliable kicker again for the Jets.

Even Suisham is doing well enough with the Steelers, despite rocky tours with the Cowboys and Commanders.

Buehler is a versatile talent and is gaining experience to become more consistent.

Thats it. He hits these monster shots and then cant hit PAT or short FG's.

He looks all wrong when going into the ball. Looks unnatural for him. Maybe he can fix that.

I think it was a mistake to try and convert him.

He can come back for training camp, but has to win the job against two other kickers.

His inconsistency cannot be tolerated.

Buehler is 8/8 on 20-29 yd field goals. Akers has missed 6 extra points and has missed a 20-29 yd FG in his career.

BINGO.

Problem is, it's impossible to make in game decisions regarding the offense when he's as inconsistent as he is.

Gimme a guy with limited range who is MONEY on shorter attempts and I'll take him any day of the week over what we have right now.

24-32 after yesterday.

Just 3 years ago, Akers was 24-32, same as Buehler this year. That year, Akers was 2-10  from 40+, but he made everything from inside 40. Back in 2005, Akers was even worse, 16-22, though again his troubles all came from 40+. Just last year, he missed two extra points.

Buehler clearly needs to get better, particularly from inside 40. If there's no improvement next year, then it's probably time to make a change. But I hope they stick with him for another year.

Bbbbutt he's never missed. I heard it firsthand.

DB's first year as kicker was very rocky. But he has the potential to be great.

Buehler was drafted as a kick off guy. Jerry was the one who decided to make him the kicker despite a lot of evidence that he wasn't consistent enough to do the job. I don't get mad at Buehler over all the misses because of that. This is Jerry's fault for trying to stick a square peg in a round hole.

only cowboys fans seem to make excuses to keep Buehler around. We let Vanderjerk miss what ? 3 kicks and we gave him the boot lol

Hos, can you share your thoughts on kickers? I forget where you stand on the issue.

:eekmouse:

I think he's a good kickoff guy. Bring him back for that alone. He's not at all an accurate kicker. I hope we draft a kicker like Henery from Nebraska.

Yup, and of course this experiment will continue next year because along with Roy and MB, he is one of Jerry's guys. Unfortunately Garrett can't stop this sort of thing IMO.
