back in January my father who I was very close to passed away. I started drinking to numb myself. It started getting progressively worse until last night I was an idiot and decided to drive home drunk. I was involved in a one car accident when I hit the median went over and tried to correct and hit a small tree on the median. Police showed up I called my wife to let her know I was going to jail. She drove down to get my personal affects but for some reason the police decided to let me go home with her did not arrest or even ticket me. I realized how lucky I was last night and after repairing my truck and getting new tires for the two that blew I am going to be out over 3k. Don't drink and drive folks I won't be anymore.

God bless you, brother, I'm in this battle right now. I'm on the brink of very bad things. Stabbed myself recently. Burned my arms up. Almost broke my hand. Have held guns to my head.

Went from drinking 20 beers a day to a fifth and a half.

I'm fighting it, and you motivate me. Bless you and your wife and your Father, RIP.

I'm fighting this with you brother, everyday.

Thank goodness the only damage done is to your truck, wallet and impaired driving career, you truly are fortunate for this ongoing judgment lapse to have occurred when and how it did, friend! Now, fully embrace and appreciate the gifts so commonly taken for granted in sober reflection, which seems that you are BigD by merit of this thread! My sympathies are with you concerning the loss of your father, sounded like it was something special.

Good luck to you.

While I'm not involved with drinking, I do know how hard it can be stop the patterns and behaviors that cause personal problems.

Given my proclivity for excess, I'm thankful I never started.

My father was a firefighter back in the days before EMT's, so he went on calls to car wrecks. Between the stories he told me, my best friend's brother dying in a car wreck after a night of drinking a week after he returned home from military service, and seeing a double-fatality wreck in person where the car was cut completely in half, my interest in drinking was nil.

After college I was asked about drinking in a pre-employment polygraph test. My body reacted so strongly to the question that the person conducting the test thought I was a lying about not being a drinker and confronted me. When I strongly rebuffed his challenge, he claimed they sometimes observe the same behavior from the spouses of alcoholics.

I am so glad I hate the taste of alcohol. I have alcoholism on both sides. I have never been drunk. Every alcoholic beverage I have ever tasted has had a bitter and sour taste, just nasty.
Yes , everybody's different! ,we're all the same yet completely different , your pretty ' lucky' to have not developed your drinking powers, although i believe you've mentioned the 'fiend' gene to me before, I'd be miles ahead in this game of life were it not for: fill in the blank.
Our fellow member came forth in humble honest open repentance and deep down those who imbibe sometimes in excess are envious of what you got going on @Biggems

I am glad you are OK BigD

I also quit drinking a while back due to health reasons and it was damn difficult at first but it got easier as time progressed. I am here for you if you need any help or support.
