I came into a fairly substantial amount of money a few years ago and wanting to try my hand at flipping houses but looking for a partner to start. There have been no takers.

Best Wishes Bob, if you truly have something to offer that is in demand, you'll do fine. I've been self employed for several years now but I didn't start out that way. I worked my butt off for 20 years in the military and while doing so, went to night school every chance I got to better my future. I finally got my electronic engineering degree from the Community College of the Air Force. When I retired form the military in 2006 I was a dummy and decided to be a contractor with Black Water in the middle east to make real money. It didn't take me long to figure out that it was time to fall back on that degree I had earned and paid for. I now have a contract with the Pentagon designing unique circuit boards for specific weapon systems that only the US military uses. It's good money and I have my own staff to actually do the work now. I just do the talking and sign the checks. :) I've even been able to make some sweet side money consulting on other projects the military has going.

Good luck Bob. I hope everything works out great for you. It's awesome that you're in a position where you can at least give this a go.

I just wanted to update everyone. At first, it was scary. I had no jobs lined up and my part time job wasn't scheduling me. I started calling and emailing every contact I have and reaching out. Steve Jobs said this

Now, I've actually always found something to be very true, which is most people don't get those experiences because they never ask. I've never found anybody who didn't want to help me when I've asked them for help

I started picking up a lot of hours at my part time job, and then the phone started ringing. I got my first contract trip, and got along great with the other pilot, who happened to be the owner of the aircraft, as well. I ended up doing 3 days for him so far, with the promise of more work. Now, I am booked through the end of July, through multiple sources, so I'm already on track to exceed my earnings from the job I quit, with more control of my schedule, more nights at home, and the ability to say no.

It's been great so far. I have a job interview today with a local company. I like to keep my options open. I probably won't take it, but you never know.

If you ever find yourself in WV with the ability to take some people to USVI for free...let me know...I would be a willing passenger. lol.

On a serious note.

Congrats, good to see things working out for you. Sounds like you are getting the best of both worlds...good pay but without the hassle of being gone when you don't want to be gone.

Good Luck!

I did contracting work on the side for quite a while and kept my full time job going until it got to the point where the side gig was more lucrative. I quit my full time job at with a big corp, and joined a small company with big potential and haven't looked back. It's ben 7 months now and zero regrets.

Well, I didn't just walk out. I decided to venture out on my own as a contractor. If I can line up at least 8 days of work contracting per month, I can make more than I was making. I also have a part time job, just in case. This is the first time I haven't been gainfully employed since I was 14, so it's been a big jump for me.

Have any of you guys done anything similar?
Not exactly the same, but I went from a high salary job to a straight commission job four years ago.

cyberBob--- you will do fine i guarantee it...i got disabled in car wreck in 1988 and became paralyzed from waist down...but they put me with guys paralyzed from neck down...Oh man my life is a breeze compared to them...i tried to work for a year in Las Vegas and made big money ( for me ) 70,000 that year working as a tele marketer
but it was way too stressful...had to stay drunk and on drugs to survive so i left after a year....still married and kids are grown and on their own...i say all this to promise you that you will do fine

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. In August, I made 50% more than I would have made at my full time job, and my quality of life has been 200% better. September is a little slower, but still about 25% more than I would have made. I know it will be feast or famine, so I am going to save my money, but I am really thankful that everything has fallen into place.

My folks owned a shopping center during the 90s by valley ranch. Mike Irvin, emmit and the entire bunch would get their haircut at a place called Le Cheveaux. One time Irvin tried to bribe my bro $20 to get in front of him at the barber shop. He said he was running late for practice.
Being a good cowboys fan, my bro said fine but don't make it a habit.

I was for sure that story was going to end with Irvin holding a pair of scissors to your brother's neck.

I'm of the mind that if something can't make your quality of life 250-275% better that it ain't worth it.

jk...Hoping the best for you Bob!

You know I'm your man. I know what you do and what I do is so far from the same thing...
But:
I'm in admiration of anyone giving themselves the opportunity to further themselves doing what they want.

Anything I can do for you... Just DM me . I'm there.

Not promising anything... Just saying I'm there and if I have anything going on and it involves anything with what you do: We talk.
