I really like our team

Oregon QBs put up crazy numbers because of their style of play and PAC 12 defense - how have they done in the pros?

Tua is surrounded by a roster that is head and shoulders above any team they play. He should look good. That doesn't mean he'll do anything in the NFL - again, how have Bama QBs done in the pros?

You have to judge the individuals talent and not where they played ball.

It's less of a factor now days then ever before.

The Oregon QB, Herbert, I don't care about his numbers. He has the Patrick Mahomes qualities about him.

He's 6'6, can run, strong arm, and can throw the football all over the place.

Tua.. I think it's still fair to evaluate him as to what he can be in the NFL but he is the most natural passer I've ever seen at that age.

He is accurate and he anticipates throws beyond his years. He can throw guys open before they become open. He just has elite QB vision with his ability to read a defense.

Both of these QB's are mobile and are dramatically more talented as passer's compared to Dak.

I think a new modern thinking coaching staff can have a positive effect on Dak and this offense. He probably will never be elite but if he can be a top 15 QB1 it’s a possibility.

Especially with Zeke, the up and coming defense, and maybe add a legit WR1.

I like this team. I like the way they fight.

Watching Jaylon and LVE fly to the football. That hit on Watson by Jaylon was just incredible.

Demarcus Lawrence & the D line.

Corners have really stepped their game up. Byron Jones playing at an extremely high level.

The oline has regressed but it's still been fun to watch and times and Zeke leads the league in rushing and hasn't come close to playing his best football while doing it.

If the Cowboys could just throw the football this would be a 1 loss team at worst IMO.

We are primed to be one of those teams that make a coaching change and maybe a new QB and we have an incredibly quick turn around.

The problem is Jerry will be picking the next coach and i'm worried they will force Dak on another staff.

Right now I would say the dream is Justin Herbert in the first round this year or if they trot Dak out another year and he doesn't turn it around then we get Tua Tagovailoa the next.

The worst possible outcome this year is 6-10 - 9-7.

My hope is we either Win the division or we don't win another the game the rest of the year. Mediocrity is the worst case scenario.

Also, Sean Payton supposedly has an opt out clause in his contract and Brees is rumored to be retiring after the season to take a booth job. Just throwing that out there.

Another thing.. Would the Colts trade Andrew Luck? How much does Luck have left in that arm after all of the injuries?
Garrett loves how they fight too and scratch and claw...

I think Dak in an offense that used his mobility and really throws the kitchen sink at opponents would be successful.

I'm just not willing to gamble another season on it if the opportunity presents itself.

I love this team with the exception of the people throwing and catching the ball.

Jaylon Smith is well on his way to an All-Pro season. You heard it here first. He's outplaying Wagner and Kuechly at this point in the season.
I like watching are defense more then our offense. Tank, Jaylon, LVE, Crawford and Byron have been a joy to watch this season. We just need Chedo, Woods, Gregory, and Irving to step up. We could actually have something for the next coaching staff and quarterback.

Yeah, it's easy to hit on a game changing head coach and franchise quarterback, right?

I think it's easier then ever to find a QB.

The coach... I do not trust Jerry to put his ego aside and pick the guy that's best for the Cowboys. He will pick the guy he is the most comfortable with.

You're delusional.

2014: Bortles, Manziel
2015: Marriotta, Winston
2016: Goff, Wentz, Lynch
2017: Trubisky, Mahomes, Watson

That's the last 4 years of QBs, not including 2018, drafted in the first round. There's 3 guys there I would classify has quality QBs.

Unfortunately this is kinda how the league works. Everything runs in cycles, and you can really only address one side of the ball in a given 1-3 year window of resources. We have put out dollars into the Oline and our draft capital for the most part into the defense. Thus we have a young fun D and an Oline (mostly) in their prime.

But we seem to have misjudged badly on WR/TE and that is effecting the QB, who is severely underperforming and I think has footwork/technique issues from a lack of confidence.

Also as you point out, we have not missed badly enough to get that top 5 pick to snag a QB next year (theres only 1). So the cycle will start again.

Edit: you can only escape this cycle with an elite QB and a good-to-great coach. We have neither.

And I would say look around the league and the overall QB play as a whole is better then it's ever been.

Of course there will still be busts. There will be busts at every position and I think QB is becoming more & more just like any other first round gamble.

I think all of those guys on that list outside of Manziel and Lynch are OK players at worst.

Goff, Wentz, and Mahomes are performing at a high level.

Winston is ok and so is Mariotta. Nothing special but still really young for a QB.

Trubisky has something but we need to see more.

Watson and Bortles are meh but you can win with them both.

Drew Lock is too. Not as mobile as either. But not a statue. But man he can thread the ball into some crazy tight windows.

Great post Catch. I agree on all counts. I’d love Payton as HC. Pay him whatever he wants, give him every clause he seeks. We need an offensive wizard in here. I think I’d prefer to trade big for Luck over trading big to trade up in the draft. I don’t see this is a rich QB class.

But it’s wild to think Indy would trade Luck w/no replacement ready.

If we don’t win Sunday I’m riding on Team Tank. (Tank the season)

We have money to go hard for the #1 FA WR or tight end... DT, safety. Grab more playmakers in draft.

I like...........

1) Lawrence - obvious
2) Future of our LBs beyond Lee.
3) CBs - I hope they can bring Jones back on a long term deal and I think Awuzie will develop into a good NFL CB
4) Elliott - although I still would have not taken a RB that high
5) OL - They've taken their fair criticism thus far but long term, I think they will be a very good NFL OL.

Things I don't like

1) I worry about the other DE spot. I bought the Charlton and Gregory hype from preseason and both have been "blah"
2) Safeties - I had high hopes on Woods but who knows, he's been ehhh. Heath continues to prove what many thought, he's just an average S
3) WRs - obvious
4) Coaching - obvious

I don't know what to do

1) QB - As it stands now, I don't see Dak as the future QB of this franchise, especially if Jerry is going to continue to pair him with Garrett. I could give Dak a bit more leeway if they fire Garrett his offseason and they bring in a coaching staff that truly thinks they can fix Dak. In that scenario, maybe I can get back on board. But as it stands now, I think this thing is trending in the direction that we likely need to think about drafting a QB high in 2019 (we should probably do that even if a new staff thinks they can fix Dak).

Catch 17 it kills me to see your points. Tough

I like our defense, but they need to create more turnovers.

I hate our head coach.
I hate our general manager (not the owner).
I hate the general manager's son.
I hate our offensive coordinator.
I hate our play-calling.
I hate our quarterback.
I hate our assistant coaches (with the exception of Richard).

Other than that, I think the ceiling is pretty high.
