I really like this Butler fellow

Can see how pumped up he is.

If you listen to the first minute, reading between the lines he is saying "No matter how many sacks I got or how well I played, with Wade I hardly got any playing time. Rob is going to play me and I'm pumped."

Spencer needs to keep his eyes open...Butler is coming for his spot.

When I found out the guy was from Oregon State, it kind of put a smile on my face. The kids that play under Mike Riley, go balls to the wall for the guy.

They don't land 5 star recruits at Oregon State, but they have been a big time thorn when it comes to the almighty USC. And Butler is a perfect example of what you can expect from players coming in and out of that program.

He's the second best edge rusher on the team. Anthony Spencer just isn't a very good pass rusher. He's more of a Mike Vrabel/Willie McGinest type of OLB, which isn't bad, it just means he contributes in other ways. I'd like to see a 60/40 split between Spencer and Butler.

Victor Butler is a player folks... I'm glad Rob Ryan will play him a lot more!

You talking to Ryan and not giving the board full disclosure?

:laugh2: Shhhhhhhhh it's supposed to be a secret.

Seriously though, he's going to be an important piece in the defense.

F.Y.I. I'm really digging your SIG, Lee is another guy whom they are expecting a lot from.

Did he just say Ware lining up at safety and rushing from there?

Think Rob might be enjoying his new toy :D

Thanks man. Fellow PSU product. I enjoyed every second i got to watch Lee here, he's the real deal if he can stay healthy.

I agree Butler will be an important guy for us in the pass rush this year. Spencer needs to step it up.. im sick of waiting on him to blossom.

That was a great interview... There might be a few hiccups early but our defense is going to surprise alot of people this year.

I've been an Oregon State Beavers season ticket holder now for many years. Victor Butler was a beast in college. I believe he was MVP in his last bowl game as a senior. Was a windy game in the Sun Bowl. Dude was unstoppable. We won the football game 3-0 I think. LaShon McCoy was a boy among men in that game. I was so happy to see Dallas pick him up.
And you are absolutely right about Mike Riley. Tremendous football coach.

It looks like Victor Butler and Sean Lee should be able to really help this defense this year. I don't understand why Butler didn't play more, because he has pass rush skills and displayed them in some 2009 games. Ryan looks ready to change that. Butler could be a hidden card up Ryan's sleeve for sure.

I'm pulling for Sean Lee (25) to start and Victor Butler (24) to go off. These are two young players who can make the defense better, and that is a good thing. Butler should be able to give you some sacks in this scheme. Lee's toughness and play making ability and leadership is needed in the middle of the defense. Plus, Lee can cover. I look for Sean Lee to win the starting job and never look back.

Furthermore, I sure don't want to see an outside pass rusher being discussed in the first round (2012 draft). Ware (1), Spencer (1), Butler (4th), and B. Williams (4th). Ware is a top 10 player in the NFL. Between the other three guys, someone has to cease the moment.

This is my favorite play of training camp so far. @ 12:30 in the video (courtesy of KMP), Butler makes a great interception. I like how he rushes then backs off and watches the receiver coming across. Curious if the scheme tells me to react this way. Great play.

Rob Ryan has a nickel package that has Spencer, Ware, and Butler all on the field at the same time.

No matter what, that was an outstanding read. The man was covered and he still slipped back into the gap.

Did Butler ever get around to CZ's questions? I forgot about those.
