I know what you mean, Cliff. I thought I was going to be able to kick my habit of frequenting Academy when I moved to NE Georgia, cause there weren't any even close to Georgia. Hah!!! Academy is spreading like wildfire. First, it was a new Academy in Tuscaloosa, Ala., which I would stop at on trips to and from Texas. Now there are four or five within an hour of me....I am in trouble, again! Thank you, Lord!! (I got my S&W Sigma 9mm there for around $250 a couple of years back).
I remember growing up in San Antonio when Academy was an army-navy surplus store, and there were only one or two small stores. Got some neat WW2 web belts/canteens/ET's from them to play "Army" with.
BTW, I don't know if it's still there, but if you are in the Galveston area, a trip to "Col. Bubbies" is in order, if your looking for a spanish army parachute or Israeli gas mask, or any of about a million other items!
