Some people are trying to spin this as Jerry having some master plan here where he is letting Garrett carry out the year while they negotiate behind the scenes with other coaches.
That's not what is happening. Jerry can't quit Jason. He just can't. He still thinks given the crappy state of the NFC East that Jason will somehow spit out a win against Philly in two weeks, salvage the division and maybe go on a run. That's what he hopes. He's too emotionally invested in Garrett and that has cost the Cowboys a decade of Cowboys football.
Oh, sure, maybe they talked to Meyer but I suspect that was under the pretenses of we might need a coach. I still think Jerry is hoping that gets to hold a press conference in January saying because Jason made the NFC Champ game, he's shown the progress he needed to and we signed him to a new 5 year extension.
