I Saw a Pit Bull Get Hit By a Van This Morning

On my way to work and I was in the left lane of a street approaching an underpass. All of the sudden I see a white and black dog running towards me in my lane. I slammed on my brakes. It was a pit bull that looked almost like Petey on the old Little Rascals shows.

He stopped and then ran around me into the other lane right in front of an approaching van. The guy slammed on his brakes, hit the dog and rolled him up under the van about 2 feet.

I looked at the driver and the look on his face was pure terror. Then the dog gets out and starts running in front of us the other way. Not a scratch on him, no limp, not a sign of any kind of injury. We followed him for a while to make sure he was okay and until he got off the road.

I don't think it hurt that dog at all. Unreal.

Those damn dogs are tough as nails. I was unfortunate enough to witness first hand what some "breeders" do to these animals. Long story short, I saw a 65 lb pit take a a heavy duty spade shovel to the head nearly ten times. Hard. Barely phased it. Although I'm sure it did wonders for its temperament.

Hey Hos I know Mike Vick is always looking for some tough Pitt Bulls. You probably could've made a pretty penny off that dog.

Thats a crazy story though.

I've seen a dog get hit before.

He was standing on the other side of a hill and the car that hit him had no clue he was there.

It sucks to see an animal like that alive then 10 seconds later dead.

I have too and as an animal lover it mortifies me. I've even had to put a couple of them out of their misery.

How this dog escaped without a scratch is amazing to me. I wanted to get out and check on him but with Pits that you don't know you have to be so cautious. A hurt Pit can be even more dangerous.

I hope he finds his way back home.

Not to make you feel bad but it could be hurt just in shock and not feel it. As a former pit owner I will say they are tough and can take a lot. I used to wrestle with Angus and he would take everything I gave him and want more.

I saw an 18-wheeler hit a dog a few years ago.

It was like in slow motion ... one of the truck tires went right over him and flipped back into the path of the trailer tires. It seemed like it went on forever. It was a violent, sickening thing to see.

As for me, I hit a dairy cow with a little Chevrolet Monza once. It was night and this dairyman's cows got out and were standing on the highway. I slammed on my breaks, spun around and slapped one of the cows with the back of the car. The cow just walked off. The dude comes out and asks which cow I hit and I told him I didn't know, they all looked alike to me (Holsteins). It caved in the back of my car and he tried to get out of paying for it, but it didn't work.

Not to take away from PBs getting hit but a lot of dogs walk away from being hit if they take the blow just right.

A Monza vs a cow......I'd bet on the cow any day :laugh2:

I have a chocolate lab (no not the guy who posts here) who got out once and went running off down the street chasing another dog. I watched him get hit by a car going about 30 in a residential area. I turned away in shock and when I turned back he was jogging down the street towards me, not a scratch on him. I took him to the vet and there was not a thing wrong with him. Sometimes I wonder if I imagined it.

I am sure it is in more than one state, but in Louisiana back in the early 90's if you hit a cow you have to pay for it and maybe more if it was a cow for breeding...even if it wonders into the road and the farmer has no fences. Now of course that is if the cow is hurt bad enough to kill it or have it put down.

I have hit a deer once, about everyone where I live has. Other than that I have only hit a bird while in the army and driving a hummer.

We were on the way to LSU to have some medical tests done and we hit this bird. It got stuck in the top vent/grill on the hood and the bird was dead but the wings were flapping because of the air. Should have seen the looks we got because it looked like someone used a bird as a hood ornament.:laugh2:

Funny you say "got hit by", as the same thing happened to me when I was about 13-14. My friends' dad was driving about five of us to go to a shooting range in Quantico, Va. when a huge (and I mean HUGE for VA) buck came tearing towards the car. Damn thing rammed the side of the station wagon like ten times.

Tell you one thing, that deer is lucky we didn't have any of the firearms loaded yet...my buddy's dad was one pissed off Marine.

My Grandma told about this incident she had with a reindeer one year.

Wish I could remember that story, seemed it was a good'un?

I can see him standing over the deer.

This is an AK47 assault rifle. The preferred weapon of your enemy. It makes a distinct sound when fired.

At my home, hitting rabbits is a daily occurance. Birds are always often, hit 3 at the sime once. On the way to school one time, I hit 7, no lie. And a couple of prairie dogs, but they aren't near as dumb as rabbits. I've hit multiple cats, always feel bad. I've hit coyotes, though they aren't the greatest animal I still feel bad because they are dogs. But anyway, thats my story.

Yep... in Texas a lot of counties are "open range" counties, my hometown is in an open range county IIRC. You hit an animal owned by someone, you have to reimburse them.

My nephew just got into an accident where he hit three pregnant horses and killed em. After researching, they found out luckily they were a closed range county. Could have been really bad.
