If he is good why would he want to go to a dysfunctional franchise?

Because he will get much less money than elsewhere?

Dabo Sweeney more Jerry flavor . And he keeps winning at Clemson . Although I want no part of a college coach whose exposure to the NFL is the Sunday TV carousel .

Get an NFL OC young 40-50 , innovative as the next Dallas HC . If he’s had previous NFL HC time or even College HC time good as long as he’s coached in the NFL .

Watching McVey hang 40 on the Bills yesterday and with all the injuries Shanahan still has SF in the hunt Stefanski O’Connell Kingsbury Brady Johnson that’s the type of coach can untangle this mess on offense .
Draft help on D and you can find a DC.

LOL

One thing if college coaches were paid 30% of NFL coaches or some big disparity.

Dan is paid big time and runs the top team in the nation with ~23+mil in NIL to "recruit".
He's not at a school that is capped out on growth Football wise.

I can't see many college coaches wanting to make the jump like they did 10-20 years ago. They get huge deals there and can be treated like Gods on campus.

Yeah when things are going well these college coaches are idolized and paid massive money whereas the NFL its an even playing field and only a few coaches wont get fired every 3-5 years and see their stock plummet. The only thing with the college game I could see coaches hating is the recruiting process that can be simply grueling, however these teams with massive NIL money to spend I wonder how that is changing things. I wonder if the recruiting piece is actually easier as it comes down more so to bidding on 4/5 star guys instead of the intense travel and theatrics college coaches had to do just a couple years ago.

I see 2 problems with this..

"blank check" and "stay out of his way".

Yeah the only chance we get any semblance of that is Belichek. Jerry won't cede power to anyone who doesn't have a legitimate NFL championship background. Even then it's a long shot, a very long shot.

I think keeping some form of integrity in the locker rooms is harder. You have many kids making more money the their college professors. BTW....do grades/academics matter anymore? There was a time when it was the standard but now you hardly hear anything about their grades.

Fair points...Also good to note that not only are you having to worry about recruiting the incoming freshman class, but you also have to keep your guys from entering the transfer portal year after year with money such a major piece of the puzzle.

And his name is Dan Lanning.

He is the only choice for the job - and he has the best perspective on all of the college talent coming out for at least the next four years.

No brainer

Blank check

Stay out of his way
Is he cool with Jerry hiring most of his staff for him lol?

I would argue college football is trending toward semi-professional.........with all the money and transfers.

If I’m reading it correctly, he only has one year left at 9.8 million.
I think Jerry would be willing to pay him well above that on a five-year deal.
Let’s call it 5 years @ 16 m a year

He's paying McCarthy closer to $5M per year, what makes you think Jerry would triple is coaching budget for a 30 something year old HC who only has one conference championship under his belt? By my count $16M would make him the 3rd highest paid HC in the NFL behind Reid and Payton.

DL isn’t leaving Eugene for a while. If Alabama was of no interest to him, no other job is in the running. Dude let the speculation run wild that he was headed to Tuscaloosa, and then went gangster by dropping a tweet (at like midnight) of him smoking a cigar while telling everyone that he ain’t going anywhere.

His goal has been to bring SEC style of football to the west coast, and he knows the university provides the tools for him to get there. He gets the college game, and he loves the college game. You can get a small glimpse of who he is by watching the Ducks vs Them videos. He’s huge into relationship building, a tireless recruiter, and he and Sauphia and his boys are really planting roots in a community that has fully embraced them.

Besides, he’s not a polished coach yet. His first-year gunslinger coach mentality is steadily being replaced with more sound football decisions. He’s continuing to grow as a head coach, and he’s acknowledged that he's got room to grow.

There’s the clever stuff. I’ve heard there’s going to be a rule change coming based on how DL intentionally ran a 12th man (a DB) on the field at the end of tOSU game. He knew they’d get a 5 yrd. penalty but also knew there would be a strong likelihood they could cover up the receivers while the clock continued to run. The end result? It worked. tOSU accepted the 5yrd. penalty, ran one more play, and missed getting a TO to get the kicking unit on the field. And prior to the game a couple weeks back the team discussed using a funky punt formation to get a cheap 5 yrds. by drastically spreading their formation. The end result? One of the d-lineman panicked (as anticipated) and slid directly over the snapper which is your basic covering-up the snapper 5 yrd. penalty.

There’s the fun stuff. He called timeout when the Michigan game was in hand so the players could come to sideline to witness what it looks like to see 100,000 fans heading the exits before the final gun. Prior to the game in Madison, he played Jump Around during a team meeting and reminded the players to enjoy this experience because it’s so unique and to even participate with the Badgers fans.

At this point, he’s a perfect fit to galvanize and develop young talent at the college level. Who knows, maybe down-the-road he’ll be looking for a new challenge. The only chance to get him now is to get to his rudder…Sauphia.
