Talk to the guy whose in charge with the playoff tiebreakers so I can get an honest update on the TBay factor. If the Giants have clinched a playoff spot but TBay hasnt, that means we are the only team that could knock them out. Meaning a TB loss and we're in.

Well I just hope they dont wait til after the kickoff of a playoff game we were supposed to play in but were incorrectly deemed eliminated from, before they get it right.

Then it would be like a replay challenge that couldnt be made because the offensive team already snapped the ball on another play. ;)

A TB loss, a NY Loss, a Wash win, and maybe a few others. Just focus on Carolina and Washington

I understand the deal with Carolina and Washington... but if TB loses and we win, do we own the tiebreaker over them?

No. We didn't play Tampa Bay.

Conceivably, we'd get the tie-breaker because we did beat Carolina.

It doesn't matter if you haven't played a team before, there are still tiebreaker rules.

Edit: The reason a TB loss also needs a Giants loss to accompany it has to do with the wildcard spots.

If the Giants lose, Commanders win the division. (we are assuming that the Commanders and Panthers win their game because if they don't, we make the playoffs regardless of what happens to TB and the Giants) This would put in a three way tie for two wild card spots with Cowboys, Giants, and Bucs. First a tiebreaker would be applied to teams from the same division, where the Giants would knock us out of contention for the #5 spot due to division record. Giants would own the tiebreaker (if they have the better Strength of Victory, which is a part of this scenario) then they would recieve the #5 seed. Then, we would be reapplied to the #6 seed, (a common misconception) and would own the tiebreaker over TB for the #6 seed. (Once again assuming we have the better strength of victory)

If Bucs were to lose but the Giants win their game, the Giants would win the NFCE, and their would be a 3 way tie for the wildcard spots with Cowboys, Commanders and Bucs. Commanders would knock us out of contention for the #5 seed. Bucs would win the #5 seed due to head to head. We woud be reapplied to the #6 seed, where the Commander would knock us out due to head to head.

One thing to remember, its not just the Giants and Bucs losing, but also the Strength of Victory tiebreaker falling in our favor.

I hope this made some sense rather than furthur complicate things.

The more I read about all of the scenarios, the more I just want it all to work itself out so I don't have to think about it. Even if the Cowboys don't make the playoffs, at least I won't get a headache thinking about it.

That is my recommendation for anybody who doesn't understand it. Just hope for a Cowboys win and let the rest fall where it may.

The rule you speak of comes into play in strength of schedule or common opponents. In which, both teams did play Carolina. We beat Carolina. Tampa Bay has beaten Carolina. Tampa Bay owns the tie-breaker should both teams win next week.

Cowboys win + Commanders Tie/Lose + Carolina Loss/Tie = Wild Card

Thats makes sence but can shy dont we know the Strength of Victory yet

Cowboys will know their fate befor even they play

my question is : what if NY washington and TB all lost ? where do we stand?

Washington would be out of the playoffs, NY would win the division, and then the Cowboys and Bucs would both take the 5th and 6th seeds. Who takes which one would come down to strength of victory. (or the number of wins from teams we have beaten this year)

Not quite. If the Giants and the Commanders lose and the Cowboys win, yeah... they're out. If the 'Boys lose as well, the Commanders and the Bucs take the last two spots.

I am of course assuming Cowboys win. Sorry I didn't specify that. For ANY playoff scenario to work, we have to win.
