The defense was historically bad and makes for cringe-worthy watching, especially when you realize that 3rd-and-20 all too often turns into a 1st down by the opponent's offense.
But watching this offense makes me nuts. WAY too much shotgun, which means a dearth of draw plays, screens and play action. WAY too much of the stretch run play. I know the back-shoulder fade pass is in fashion, but I'd like more of the timed out plays that can set up the long passes better. Enough with the empty backfield. And if you're going to add a FB to the roster, use him. Overall, this offense is entirely too predictable, which means the run game will eventually stall as the defense gets wise, and you end up pass-happy again and again.
I thought Orton played very well last night, but between the play-calling and the overall offensive scheme, a lot of points that would have won the game were left on the field last night.
