Whats started in 2011 i think should be continued going into 2013. Last yr Jerry released the likes of Barber, Gurode, Davis, and this yr the youth movement continued and he released players like Newman, James, Brookings. In 2013 i think the trend will continue and i think we might see just a little more when guys like Ratliff, Coleman, Felix, Spears will be gone. Id be one to welcome the change, with guys like Hatcher, Lissemore, and Crawford i think DE will be fine. But replacements would be needed in Felix and Ratliff.

Ratliff replacement: In all honesty i think the Cowboys are hoping Brent gets off with a easy sentence. Which could very well happen, but then it is texas so he's probably going to prison. Another thing i believe Dallas saw was that while it lost some passrush up the middle with Ratliff out but they saw a better sense of stability in keeping OL off its ILBs with a bigger guy like brent. Doesnt have to be a all pro but somebody who can be solid. Last yr i was talking about aubrayo Franklin and but eased off with the play of Brent. Being that the cowboys play a hybrid type of defense a full-time NT isnt needed as we see Lissemore play alot inside in those 2 man DL fronts. Heres a name thats below the radar but is very good in what Brent gave the Cowboys RUNSTOP ability. Terrance Knighton from Jacksonville. He's a player in the mold of Franklin. Will be fairly cheap as he considered just a sold Run stopping NT. Then theres the draft. Whereas if you dont pick up somebody in FA you have to reach for need. Where if you do go in FA and pluck a decent guy, you have options in the draft and could draft later.

Brandon Williams Missouri Southern
Anthony Rashad Michigan State
Anthony McCloud Florida State

All can be had probably in the 4th round and all will be able to contribute with a Young est vet taken in FA.

Or you can go in the draft and get guys like Sylvester Williams, John Jenkins, in Round one or trade up in Rd2.

Felix replacement: IMO this will be the easier of the two for the team to replace. RBs are easier to find and cheaper to pay especially if youre not a top tier RB. IMO this should be a FA move here. Plain and simple. A young est vet that can start if needed that can come in and provide a few carries on Murray rests.

Then there's a guy like Anthony Spencer, who is playing better than Ware in his contract yr. But the guy wont come cheap. So does dallas open up the wallet and pay to keep him. Pittsburgh made it work with Harrison and Woodley. Right now i say keep him. But thats with guys like Romo, Dez contracts coming up. So this is a tough spot. But i say sign the guy. The way he's playing now one can only imagine how he would look with Lee and Carter in there. But then one can also imagine how ineffective he can be too.

OL, This is where i think it will be decided if the team can pay Spencer. If the team replaces 3 or 4 people. Which i dont see happening. Cost, Cook, Kowalski. Im starting to think Kowalski my be a Guard next yr. He is obviously not ready to play. But im sure theyre keeping him active as insurance. People i think need to come to grips that Free will be a Cowboy next yr. But im sure his deal will be reworked. I think there will be one maybe 2 changes along the OL. Tyron, Livings, Costa/Cook, and Free will be starting. Im convinced RG will see another player in 2013, and maybe LG too. But i think that will be the extent of it.

Safety, I think Sensabaugh should start but i would love for Dallas to bring in a guy who can play either Safety spot. A rookie is my preference. Guy like Phillip Thomas, TJ McDonald. a Guy who who has the size to hit but as the speed to cover ground. Sensabaugh has the hitter mentality but he doesnt have the speed. Church i would love to take it to the next level next yr but i dont think he has much more ceiling. But the way the nfl is going its a pass haven league. And Dallas plays alot of that hybrid stuff where theres that DB slash LB role. Church can excell there. Have a top rookie start with Sense for a yr then release Sensabaugh if Church looks healthy enough to move forward after 2013. All about options.

MIke Jenkins is as good as gone. somebody will pay him what Dallas wont. But Scandrick is more than capable. Next man up.

WR core, IMO this needs to stay the same. Dez is the go to guy, and Austin is the #2. Austins deal is so cap friendly its ridiculous. IM sure Austins deal will be reworked to give him more guaranteed money thru the length of the contract but takes the base salary down. Instant capspace.
Harris and Beasley will push Ogletree out the door this offseason. I actually think Beasley will pass Harris in 2013 and be the slot.

With some Stability along the OL and some hole plugging in 2013 Dallas IMO will be younger and better.

I like some of that.
You dont think that Austin is clogging the slot?

I think Austin can be put anywhere. I like what he does. Some people say hes having a bad yr. But its not too shabby.

Bad... Over 1000 yard year. Those are career enders.

Good write up... Miles Austin is still on pace for 1,000 yards despite missing earlier games with the hamstring issues. I agree it might be time to move on from Ratliff, I think he's a tremendous player but it might be best. I just don't want to see him in a Commanders, Giants or Eagles uniform.

Alot of other bigger Wrs are having the same Hamstring injuries now too. Jordy Nelson has been suffering from this for weeks

Exactly...

lots of turnover since 2010:

Keep in mind, Danny McCray has youth written all over him.

Youth isn't everything, a good dose of experience and proven ACHIEVED POTENTIAL counts for something, too.

not enough in the defensive line. offensive line has a lot of turnover but not the right kind.

i think more pressure needs to be put on the scouting department.

I think the team got strapped with that Cap punishment some. If atleast 1 improvement isnt made this yr. Id really have a problem with it because they should have plenty of money to improve

Disagree.

We should acquire as many older players as possible.

Older than a rookie i agree. Old no. keep the core between 26-28

Co-sign with the thread title. I definitely want to keep generating youth, energy, and future to this team.

Many may not agree but I think Dewayne Harris could develop into a real threat. He just needs more touches. I think he will be much better than Crayton. He seems smart and has the makings of a really good player..........

I think Wiley veterans at certain positions is a must. Like FS, LB, C.....etc

I like most of this post. I also agree that people are gonna have to get used to Free. I expect a change at both guard spots and Costa at center. Not sure if we get rid of rat though. Have to see how the chips fall in April, set a June 1st cut.
