I think Crayton can certainly fill Key's role

Say if we were to resign Key, we would probably bring him in on 3 wr sets, cause 2 wide we need terry out there and TO(yea i know its not officalwhatever) Crayton has a size and is a bit faster than Key, and he displayed awesome hands in the beginning of the year, I think the end of the year Crayton just rushed back, cause he felt he needed to and couldnt get in sync, with a preseason like he had last year, I think hes going to be one of the better #3 receivers around

yeah I have high hopes for the kid too. As his skills and technique develope I think he could obtain high number 2 ability (Reggie Wayne type).

Remember this kids was a QB/RB/WR/KR in college...Didn't specifically develope skills as a WR in college. Small program on top of that.

Crayton has very good potential and he's exciting to watch.

Its certainly possible but I wouldnt want to bank the whole season on it. We tried that last year with Tucker and Petetti.

plus he has huge hands and the ball sticks to them like he's wearing crazy glue... super hands... I thought all along last season he could actually be a #2 receiver with no problem at all.

Agree completely and I think it was a major factor in the decision to let Key go test the market.

I agree with everything wrote above,, the only question i have is the durable. Key made some very tough catches in traffic and took the hits to get us 1st downs. No question about the kids talent.. i remember telling my dad (RIP) that this kid was going to be something special one day, during his rookie year and i still believe that , just wondering how durable he is. Good time as any to find out i guess.

I agree, before the ankle injury, Crayton was really helping our team. His hands are sticky as glue and he has a quiet confindense about him. I expect BP has already told him to get ready for mini camp and show that he is ready to step into the #3 WR role. :)

YOu should change the title of this thread as Crayton will still be the #3 and Key was the #1 in my mind or at least the #2.

Crayton's injury last year--wasn't it a broken leg--doesn't seem a sign to me that he isn't tough. I do think he rushed back, with Parcells' urging, and simply wasn't physically ready. Should do well this season & I do believe he more then capable of replacing Keyshawn as our #3. I'm just upset that Keyshawn was cut because--except for TO--we have no body behind these 3. Don't believe Copper (1 catch in 06) & Crowder (ST player) are viable & would have liked us to add a younger WR in FA (maybe RFA) who just on the cusp of making it. If TO indeed coming to the Cowboys (and I don't like his off the field antics), teamed with Glenn, these two will certainly turn in some really good numbers, but if Glenn gets hurt, who replaces him? See Crayton as a good #3 replacing Keyshawn, but again we've got no depth at WR.

I like Crayton. The kid's shown a lot of potential as a possession receiver.

But I think a lot of ya'll are underestimating what Key brought to this team.
He may not have been the big time playmaker that players like Owens and Harrison are... but when it came to 3rd and 3 or goal line situations...
there ain't too many WR's in the league that I'd rather have on the field in those situations.

The guy made some clutch catches for us why he was here.

That's hard to replace.

Crayton has great hands, however he is no where near the level of wr of Keyshawn. Like him or hate him keyshawn had everything but speed. Crayton doesnt have speed either. Keyshawn had a big wingspan and a wide body to help him make those 8 yard slants and 10 yard stop routes.....

check out my video of keyshawns highlights here in Dallas...tell me if crayton can do all that...

I agree with all that has been said, I think Crayton can be a good #2 WR someday, he has the attitude. I remeber his first catch he said something along the lines of My only thoughts were to take it to the house or something similar to that.

As far as speed I think Crayton is faster then he looks, although he is by no means a burner. But I prefer someone with crazy glue hands that will make 95% of the catches over a burner with suspect hands anyways.

Sean Taylor might disagree.

Either way, Crayton is certainly quicker and faster than Keyshawn, and gets better separation. He is also much better after the catch. He was on pace for a 700+ yard season before his injury - as a 4th WR.

It will depend how he comes back from the injury, but taking age into account I think Crayton's development was a key factor in letting Key go (so to speak).

I'm not belittling Keyshawn's skills, and there is certianly a loss of 'intangibles', but at some point you simply have to replace a 34 year old WR, and perhaps that time is now.

Let's see him play a season without getting hobbled before we start comparing Crayton to Keyshawn Johnson. No one is going to replace a player like Johnson, but the whole dynamic changes with T.O. Owens will be come a primary receiver and Glenn a true #2. You will have to put 3 guys on them and that means Witten, Crayton and everybody else have to step up and defeat 1 on 1 coverage.

Be fair - he was our third WR. Fourth option, third WR.

Speed had nothing to do with that play, that was just poor decision on taylors end, he went inside to cover keyshawn should have stayed back with the deep ball.....

here watch it for yourself, I made the vid of the play last year..

LOL, you're right.

I've somehow in my head already added TO to the roster and backdated it :)

I was being facetious.

No, Crayton is not a burner. But he doesn't need to be to fill Key's role, he needs to be able to get quick seperation, go over the middle and catch the ball in traffic. He displayed all of those abilities early last season.

He may not match Key's numbers this year, but getting on the field more will pay dividends down the road, and I think he can certianly in the future put up a 60 catch, 800+ yard season.

Keyshawn will only get slower.

I have no problem with them cutting keyshawn, dont take it that way, just simply saying crayton does not posess keys skills.
