I think Dez is the same guy he was in 2014

It may be a terrible ratio but the target stat is dumb when used in a vacuum, are there some balls he should have had yes but there were also balls that he could not get due to errant passes.

As well as balls that were basically throw aways. I think when Dak (and the awful guys in 2015) doesn't have anywhere to go, he is more likely to throw it in Dez's direction in the off chance he might make a play.

He got paid...

Also, he probably lost 6" on his vert.

He is good in the redzone but a liability in the other part of the field.

Before the SF game he was 21 of 48. That is a terrible catch rate for any WR.

Brice Butler was 8 of 11 in that same span and he gets the low percentage deep route passes.

Numbers are skewed. A high number of those have been uncatchable.

I wish people would understand this concept.

Even Dez apologists can concede that it's been an awful signing for us, to this point. But I've yet to see anyone name a better WR we could sign for the money we'd save by cutting him. Just look at what Jeffrey and Garcon got. Pryor signed for 6M, but has done next to nothing. Have any names?

I don't know - I'd love to believe this is the case, but the physical differences are apparent I think. 2010-2014 Dez had remarkable leaping ability and made brutally difficult catches look routine. I just think the drop off in his high pointing ability and hands is noticeable.

Can never question his effort but he seems somewhere along the lines of 80-85% of his past self following the injuries of the past couple years.
His effort sucks if he is not the featured player. I have watched him refuse to block or even leave the line on runs away from him.

His body language isn't always great, but he's a very solid blocker.

Look at the game logs for JJones, AJ Green, DHopkins, MEvans, JNelson, DThomas ACooper....everyone but ABrown disappears for weeks....... no one is week to week money

Dez' last 16 games is 70/1050/11

Eye test shows me he is not the same player as in 2014, and two plays from 2014 illustrate my viewpoint.

Against Jacksonville ins 2014, Dez caught a crossing route, and then jived and juked and powered for a ridiculous TD that highlighted his speed, quickness and strength.

At Washington, he did a "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" move by following up Desean Jackson's sprint out route that he took off for a TD with a Smoke-Screen that he juked/overpowered one CB and then outran the rest of the (admittedly terrible) Washington secondary.

I have not seen Dez make a play anything like either of the two above in a while. He ad a similar big play, but for a first down not a TD at Seattle that year.

He's still a top20 WR, but there are several guys I would take over him, and if you factor in the $, I can name at least 20.

I hope I'm wrong, and that we see more plays from him that highlight his amazing athleticism, but to me, he's more of red-zone specialist these days with occasional plays b/w the 20s.

He's making top 3 money though.

Yes, about the 5th highest paid WR in the NFL. He does good stuff for Dallas, but not "top 5 in the league" stuff. He's overpaid for what he brings to the team.

I guess his touchdown in Arizona was weaksauce stuff.

Nope. Displayed tremendous strength and some of the juking. The two plays I gave as examples are, at least to me, a different player. Hopefully I'm wrong, and it's just a matter of opportunities.

"He's getting paid top 5" the market is always changing, Hopkins already got his extension and is getting more than Dez. Landry, OBJ, are coming up on extensions and will get paid. Devante Adams might get a nice payday, next year its Mike Evans, Kelvin Benjamin, Stefon Diggs, and Brandin Cooks. What was top 5 a few months ago is going to be top 10-15 next year, it doesn't matter..you guys care too much about money you aren't handing out.
