I think I broke my kneecap.

Seriously.

I was walking into our living room and slipped on the tile and fell into the wall. I caught myself before falling down, but my knee when straight into the corner of the wall that protruded from the entry way.

My girlfriend and her family laughed at me, as I assume the whole ordeal looked funny.

However, I felt my knee shift and I haven't been able walk or put any pressure on it whatsoever. It's swollen, but I've been icing and heating it all day.

I've had knee injuries before... mostly hyper-extensions from football and a couple sprains. This feels 50x worse than any of those.

If it gets worse I'll go to the doc later in the week. Hopefully it's just a deep bruise.

My ego is pretty bruised as well. Gotta love busting your *** in front of people, regardless of the fact you know them pretty well or not.

Does anyone else care to share any embarrasing household injuries?

I had a buddy who was riding a horse on some asphalt when the horse tripped over a curb and fell sideways onto his knee, breaking the kneecap right down the middle. He said it was the worst pain he'd ever been through (and recovery seemed to take forever). I've torn my ACL and that pain was stunning, but I can't imagine actually breaking the cap. Ugh.

As for embarrassing accidents, I'm one of those guys that has actually walked through a sliding glass door. Let me clarify: a closed sliding glass door. Not even a scratch on me if you can believe it, but it was a horrifying experience and I still get grief for it to this day (this happened about a decade ago).

I am fortunate to have had very few accidents. The worst one was like yours kinda, at work someone was wheeling a metal cart loaded with many pounds load, like more than 50lbs load, they were in a hurry and speeding, not looking and rammed the corner bar right into my knee as I lifted and bent my leg, tip on metal bar hit. That was some kinda pain I never felt., but after a few days the swelling went down, but it hurt bad for weeks walking around. The doctor said it was a bone contusion. I worked the day after it happened, because I thought I was tough guy or something, 8 hours walking on my feet.

I did a similar thing to my knee when I was about 20. It wasn't broke, but hurt like heck for a few days. I think it just ended up being a bad bruise. You could also have inflamed or burst a bursa sac, which also hurts quite a bit. You will need to see a doctor for treatment.

Uh...if you can afford it, go ahead and go now.

My dad thankfully didn't wait when he was having chest pains to go to the doctor and he had blood clots in both legs and pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. The people in the ER wondered how he was still alive when they read his charts.

If you wait, it could get worse. Not that you've got blood clots, but I'm sure you get my drift.

Does being dragged down a flight of stairs in your apartment building count as a household incident? :laugh2:

A word to the wise...if you eat a clove of non-irradiated garlic a day, blood clots cannot form. Natural (non-irradiated) garlic strongly inhibits platelet aggregation, preventing blood clots from forming and thereby preventing heart attacks, strokes and embolisms. Not a bad side benefit of something that makes your food taste better. It doesn't matter if it is raw or crushed and cooked as far as anti-clotting is concerned.

Crushed raw garlic is also the strongest antibiotic in nature when applied directly to any bacterial infection. Direct application kills all bacteria, including, strep, e. coli, tuberculosis, staph, including MRSA, etc. What's more, no bacteria can become immune to garlic like they have commercial antibiotics because it kills in a different way (direct penetration). Crushed raw garlic even kills MRSA and MRSA cannot become immune to it.

For antibactrerial applications, it must be applied directly to the site of the infection, eating it does no good.

Learn all you can about the many uses of garlic, the life you save may be your own.

Irradiated garlic does not work at all as the radiation kills the enzyme, alliinase, that triggers the process that results in the health benefits. Fortunately, there is a way you can tell if garlic has been irradiated and that is to cut open a clove from a bulb and look for the little growing shoot in the middle of every living clove. If you find a shoot, your garlic is good but if you do not find a growing shoot in the center of the clove, the garlic has been irradiated and is dead and has no health benefits at all.

If you would like to know more, Google "garlic and staph".

Good luck to you and your dad.

If you want a stronger topical antibiotic, try 30% concentrated hydrogen peroxide. it will eat the skin down to the bone, but hey, no more bacteria :laugh2:

Get a quart of it, throw in a penny, strike a match. Not much of anything left after that.

Pardon the interruption.........but I read the thread title and had to laugh. My dad used to tell us boys..."You do that again and I'll bust your kneecaps."

Apologies, just had a flashback...........
