I think this team is nearly at that level

I'm not one to try to predict that the Cowboys are a Super Bowl team every year. I know that it's seen as delusional and all that. I was notably upset the last couple offseasons. And I'm not sure we're there yet. But, I think this this team is nearly at THAT level.

Part of the reason I'm harping so much on our T situation is because I think this team, if healthy, genuinely is one of the top 3-4 teams in the league, on paper this year. The only teams I can think of this year that MIGHT give us a run (if we stay healthy and are at our best all season) are the Rams, Seahawks, and Bears......and MAYBE Denver.

I love our roster, except Steele (sounds like Guyton has been stepping up). We really haven't (someone brought this up on YT) had the d word (I'm not saying the word because I don't want to jinx it lol) this year (compared to normal). I think we actually have a very good coaching staff for the first time since maybe the Parcells era. We have a DC who seems to know what he's doing. We have a HC who is making clear what he wants and what he doesn't like. We actually have a good culture building (at least from what I can see). And for the first time in many years (since maybe 2014 or 2016), we might genuinely have a legit Super Bowl team.

The ONE thing, and it'd be a shame if this happens, that can wreck ALL that (aside from injuries) that I can see right now is Tackle, and particularly Steele. It'd be a crying shame if we look back and wonder what if if we don't address that side. Schotty even has been making clear that he's not pleased with Steele. I hope Jerry is listening, because he's actually built a team that's close. But there's always ONE Achilles heel. Hopefully, he can patch that up before Dak gets injured.

The offense can be top 5 again easily.
And her the top at scoring. Yards may dip some, if the defense steps up and gets the offense some shorter field positions.
But scoring is what counts, as we all know.

The defense should be improved a lot. There will be growing pains. But when they gel, and play lake a top 12 defense going into the playoffs. It could be great. They may finish 15th or so in defense, but play like a top defense in the playoffs.

Of course we need to see it on the field. And we all know that, and should go unsaid.
But we all say it anyway.

I agree, but all that assumes that a defense that was last in the league last year is marginally better. I know we've seen it before, ALA when Quinn took over from Nolan, but we are talking about 100 things having to go right, such as all the players picking up on a much more complicated scheme, having some consistent pass rush without a perennial pass rusher, CB play being significantly better, LBs being good, etc. The front office has done alot to address multiple positions for once but will it be enough, especially deep in the playoffs? Can Special Teams improve enough? Maybe most importantly can Dak and the offense stay hot and consistent and healthy into December and January? Cause I feel like we forget they kind of fizzled out late in the season last year, though maybe they checked out with how bad the defense was. Also, to your point being stubborn about Steele because of his contract could derail the entire season if he ends up being a liability.

I'm also optimistic. It feels like things are finally being done the way they need to be and I do think Schotty is a good coach. We are just also relying on Christian Parker being everything he's been hyped up to be right out of the gate, and that's not a given either. We often see playoff births come down to 2-3 coin flip games, and we can't afford to drop some easy ones early while the defense gets adjusted with having so many divisional and NFC games early. So I think worst case is they have the foundational pieces in place and need one more season and offseason to really be able to contend with the Rams and Seahawks. Best case is they come out firing on all cylinders, stay healthy, and give us the best season since 2016.

Jerry is still the overlord, we can't compete until he isn't.
It's not that there's not some truth to that with a lot of historical precedent, but at some point you have to acknowledge that they are doing things much differently and for once have operated with the aggressive mentality the contenders have the past few seasons. In addition to aggressive team building, they are finally taking chances on up-and-coming good coaching talent like Parker, so just blindly saying the "we won't win until Jerry the owner fires Jerry the GM" cliche is a pretty dang lazy take.

Nope, it may well be a better season with a better team but the closer we get to succeeding, the more Jerry will stick his nose in.

you have to acknowledge that they are doing things much differently
For less than a year .......... compared to 30 years ......... forgive me if I am not believing the sudden change of heart of a 84 year old narcissist.

He is trying to con the fan base again .......and ,by the looks of threads like this, he is succeeding with at least half of you.

I've been insanely critical of Jerry. Look at my profile pic, lol. I just follow the league pretty closely and am capable of acknowledging when things are being done correctly and in line with what winning teams have done. Jerking each other off in your negative echo chambers with cliche Jerry-isms is just as disingenuous as blind homerism.

If you're not optimistic and excited about football and genuinely think the team is doomed as long as Jerry is alive, then what the heck are you doing spending so much time on an anonymous internet forum about the Cowboys? This is something we all choose to follow. Don't you have better things to do if all hope is lost? Or is your hobby just crapping all over people trying to enjoy things?

....Russ, that collective feeling is gaining strength around here.

With every week, I get that, "Dang we're going to be good this year". :)

Oh Rusty.

This team has more holes than swiss cheese with the worst GM in the N.F.L to fill the gaps.

Zero depth on the O-Line
Mediocre depth on the D-Line
Below average linebackers who can't stop a nose bleed
Mediocre cornerbacks
Zero depth at Safety should Downs get hurt.
LBs with no instincts for where the ball is.
Edges that can't keep contain.
No consistent pressure from the D-Line.
Offense dissapears in the second half against above .500 teams
Defense is a mere speed bump against the run
O-Line can-t run block or pass block at a high level.
QB who chokes in big games with bad defenses and when defense holds opponent to 24 points or fewer

And after all that Rusty sees "Super Bowl."

Oh God ...... here is this crap again ........ I was a Cowboy fan before Jerry Jones and will be one when is is cold in the ground.

Keep falling for this bull-crap if ya want, but anyone with a lick of sense knows what is coming ......... so do not preach to me.

The big goal is always the Super Bowl but the immediate goal to me starts at winning the division, that gets you a ticket to the playoffs.

I think we can have a shot at winning the division. I’ll keep my expectations there until the games kickoff

Look at the roster from last year and this year, totally different, that easily gets us 2 more wins if anything

This is a season where, right now, the team is passing the eyeball test...enthusiasm is held off until we get the season going and it all comes to life
