I Think We’re Gonna Trade Up

Just listening to the post draft press conference. They said they had 3-4 guys targeted at #26 and there was debate on which way to go. In fact, they noted it came down to two players, one offensive and one defensive, ultimately going the latter with Mazi.

My read is that they will be focused on getting their guy on Day 2. I’m predicting they will be trading up to ensure we get the player.

They did a great job of filling holes/needs in free agency, which means they may not be so reluctant to give up picks to make a move this draft.

I think it will either be TE or IOL.

I think we should play it out and sees what comes to us. I want G/T but we shall see. Continue to build in the trenches

You don’t think they can wait? Lots of good second round prospects.

I hope they don't trade up too much. The Cowboys need to keep their 3rd and 4th round picks to have a good draft. Plenty of good RBs available in the 3rd especially.

I'm predicting they won't.
Nah, it will cross their minds. But McClay will convince them to relax. They should stick with him. He knows what he's doing. Much more than any one of us.

The fact they went with a defensive player tells you which coach they truly believe in though.

Yeah, I think given the way they set up the roster this past off-season, they want an impact starter type vs. simply a BPA prospect that may just add to depth at a position.

I think think there’s real interest in getting some juice at TE or a starter at OG.

LaPorta
Musgrave
Mayer
Avila
Torrence

If I was to make a guess I think they’ll lean towards OG since the depth in the draft at the position is not as deep as TE.

Reading between the lines I got the impression we were looking at two defensive players but I wasn’t playing too close attention so could be wrong.

I thought he said it wasn’t down to offense vs defense..it was player vs player etc and was being a little coy. I think it was Mazi Smith and either Porter Jnr or Drew Sanders.

Gotta be one of these guys:

TE
Mayer
LaPorta
Washington
Musgrave

OL
Avila
Torrence
Bergeron
Mauch
Would be happy with any of six of these, so you sit and wait, until you can't. Four to six defenders would also still be treasured.

Keep your powder dry.

As with picking Mazi, it will depend upon whether we want a specific player (and there's no alternative). If I had to guess, the reason we went early on Mazi is because there was : a) no other run stopping DT available and b) there are still options at each of the offensive positions (TE, G and even WR).

EG if we're ambivalent on say LaPorta vrs Mayer (or even Musgrave and Washington) or Avila vrs Torrance......lets see how it drops.

Yeah it would make sense I guess but they don't really trade much anymore. 1 trade in the first 3 rounds since 2015.

I don't want a short class.

NO trade up for TE that is insane. Trade up costs you your running back, can't afford that.

Our 4th gets us up to Miami’s #51 and they may want to be adding picks. I could see that if they Avila, Tippmann, or Bergeron are available and they don’t want to take any chances.

Great? Go look back at the past 20 drafts and tell me how many great late 2nd rounders you find. Maybe 1 out of every 25 are great.
Diggs comes to mind right away. As Jerry would say; some of these players have warts, but Diggs fell to us and he has contributed to some big wins for us. I’m not against moving up; I’m just implying that there is a lot of good players left and we will get something.
