I think we're a good team, but next year?

I can't believe the potential this team has to be significantly better next year.

Right now I would say we don't have a lot of holes.

Arkin and Nagy should be stronger next year. I hope Nagy's ankle doesn't set him back, but I don't think it will, it might actually put him in position to get more strengthening work in. I can't wait to see year 2 Tyron Smith...

Worst case scenario I see us drafting a guard or center high.

I think we're still set at running back, but I would still take a flyer on Peyton Hillis after he leaves the Browns. He doesn't need to be an every down back, especially not here. And behind the better oline that we should have next year?

Other factors: Dez - Year 3 (year many top receivers flourish), Bruce Carter, Defense in its 2nd year under Rob Ryan (assuming he is still here). Perhaps we get a corner high, but maybe Newman has more tread then we anticipated.

I think the position that we most need to address is guard, and honestly I don't think at the moment we have a glaring hole anywhere else, and maybe just maybe we're set there if Holland can play like he did consistently. Either way I would push to replace Kosier at least in the starting line up.

All due respect, we have the talent and fortitude to go places this year if they would just put a complete game together on a consistent basis.

It'll be interesting to see what we do at the safety position. Both and Elam and Sensy are playing solid on one year deals, but I'd be hesistant to give them more than 3 year deals. We need interior line help pretty badly. I'm still not a believer in Costa so if a top center is available in the 2nd round, I'd jump on it. Spencer is in a contract year so that'll be interesting to watch also. 2012 will be the year of Bruce Carter/Sean Lee and the exit of Bradie James, Terence Newman and Keith Brooking IMO

I think we probably keep James and Brooking here as veteran depth.

It's a luxury to keep guys like that, and with Carter starting, they will get even less reps, so they should be able to contribute 100% every down they are in.

Neither guy is super expensive.

I think we keep Newman bro...

This team has a chance to do some special things this year. It all depends on how much more they continue to improve and gell and keep moving forward.

There is some nice things to look at for the future as well with this team though. So I'm pretty happy with the way things are at this point.

I can see why you'd say that, but it seems like the last time we "didn't have many holes", we drafted a bunch fo special team players that brought absolutely nothing to the team.

We certainly need offensive line players, but I'm still not against CB, QB, DE, S and maybe even OLB.

I do to, but I still think we will draft a CB. This class is littered with QB talent so we should find good value somewhere in the middle of the draft.

Yeah, I get greedy come draft time. We don't want a 2009 draft like your pointing out with good reason. CB, S, interior OL, QB, DE, LB are all needs that we could use some youth or someone to develop in, with CB, S, and OL as top priorities in the draft.

Yeah can't tell you how much I would like to get another QB to develop, its the most important position in football, it needs to always be a high priority position to develop someone.

It's true that we don't have any real black holes on the team (see Alan Ball: starting safety), except maybe in the interior of the OL. In a sense, that's a problem, because there's no obvious place to make a huge upgrade (like RT and S this year).

But there are plenty of places where the team could plug in a stud and improve next year.

C - we can't just assume Costa or Kowalski will develop into a star.
G - no stars on the roster here.
TE - nothing wrong with having two great TEs.
DE - no stars here either.
ILB - it's possible the stud is already on the team, but that's no sure thing. We need at least one more solid guy here anyway.
S - yes, we improved a lot this year, but it's not like we have Ed Reed back there.

Throw in the fact that we'll need to be looking at QB and CB before long, and we're set up nicely for a BPA draft.

I didn't say lets skip the draft lol...

We have no stars at defensive end, but we have the leagues top ranked rush defense...

Philips should be a capable #2 tight end

Carter is most likely that 2nd inside linebacker...

I think sensabaugh and elam are playing well enough to get new contracts.
