'I want it to be a surpise': Cowboys' Williams speaks to 2.0 him, says 'Big Sam ready'

Maybe Eberflus can find the switch for him to play smarter.

Give him the chance he needs. The talent is there. We seen the flashes. Well some fans do anyway.
This team lacked discipline for years and years. I am ready for a change of that.

Similar injury to Overshown. Hope he makes it back. The Cowboys had bad injury luck last season.Sam potentially is a better pash rusher Gholston was.

This is a GREAT article about Sam and his recovery from surgeries. It sounds like he has really done the right things and will be more than ready this summer. Very inspiring read. I especially enjoyed reading the "Bigger, Stronger, and Built for Impact" part.

Sam Williams. Cowboys fans haven't forgotten the name, even if the draft cottage industry has lost track of his whereabouts over the years. Since being selected in 2022, mentions of Williams have ebbed and flowed for two seasons— whether about underutilization, inconsistency, or flashes of raw pass-rushing brilliance that teased an imminent breakout.

A brutal ACL and MCL tear in the build up to 2024's all-important Year 3 ended those convos. A season of "what could have been" turned into silence as he underwent season-ending surgery and landed on IR. Seven months post-injury though, the silence is breaking.

Questions about Sam Williams’ trajectory are back on the table. Will 2025 be the year he levels up, finds consistency, and becomes a real force in the Cowboys’ pass rush? The conversations are picking back up because Williams himself is inspiring the talk. “Big Sam ready.”

And he says it with a grin, one that suggests he knows something others don’t yet. He’s locked in on recovery, dialed in on his body, and focused on proving that when he gets his shot, he’s making it count.

If we dont draft a DE at 12, I could see them extending Williams contract one year. Make sense for both parties. Cowboys get a year of control with Williams. Williams has time to build his value before hitting FA. Even if he has a good season, his value would be muted a bit due to having one big season

I'm hoping he comes back the way he's talking about it. He is our second-most explosive player on defense next to Micah. On a per snap basis, dude makes a lot of splash plays and, to a lesser extent, a few dumb plays.

Maybe the people that are making the calls should look into these players history to see what they kind of people they are. There have been several 2nd round players that have come through here that have failed to play up to their potential. You could say that these 2nd round picks they've missed on may be some of the reason this team isn't getting better.

I don't think you need to use the word potentially. He's definitely a better pass rusher than Golston.

The problem is Sam has Gregory potential. Gholston is a poor man’s D. Lawrence. Micah hides so many of the team’s pass rushing flaws. Yeah defensive end is definitely a possibility with our first pick.

I want to root for this guy. He has all the physical tools, and he is just so quick on his pass rush. He is also no slouch when it comes to run defense. He needs more experience but he has potential to be a really good DE for Dallas - if he can overcome the stupid penalties.

I think they missed him last year. We forget how quick he was rushing the passer. This year he has a good chance to win a starting role and more snaps. He could surprise, although that is expecting a lot coming off his injury.

Just another in the long line of risky picks in the second round that didn’t work out. He’s spent more time in the news, and getting called for ridiculous penalties than he has doing anything good.
I'd like to see him come around, but we'll see. At this point, I don't see any reason to expect it. I'll be surprised, if he does receive significant playing time, if he ends up contributing more than 5-6 sacks.
