Not after the Cowboys draft him. Meet Colombo's replacement... ;)

I agree.....but he will also be able to play Tackle if need be......but he will be drafted to play guard.....

in college he was mostly a Tackle though

I hate the idea of an Olineman in the 1st, much less a freakin' OG, but if we have to take Blalock, I would be okay w/ it, not real excited, but I wouldn't bash the pick, he's an athlete at a position of need

And for my part, there will be enough good guards and centers on the board in the second round, perhaps even in the third, that I won't get bent out of shape if the
Boys look elsewhere in the first round...

I want a good interior lineman on the first day of the draft, and I don't care if his name is Justin Blalock, Ben Grubbs, Manny Ramirez, Samson Satele or Kyle Young... actually, I think right now, I'd prefer one of the center/guard combos on that list, Satele or Young... this would give Gurode the competent backup that the Boys need...

Just a few questions, only one sarcastic.

Is anybody worried that he has to make the switch from tackle to guard? Didn't he get some time at guard in the senior bowl SilverBear?

No, I think that they used him exclusively at tackle...

Why didn't I see big Mike Williams, 4th overall pick cut from Buffalo and Jacksonville, on that list Biggems?

Would his presence on the list negate the successes of those other players??

Follow the link I provided a post or two later, and you'll get a rundown on ALL the Longhorns who are still in the NFL... just be advised that some of the guys on that list are now coaching, not playing...

It's still a pretty impressive list of talent... for sure, I'd take Casey Hampton to play NT for the Boys right now, and wouldn't mind Nathan Vasher at cornerback either... and Roy Williams could be the second coming of Michael Irvin, minus the off-field issues...

I know........cause the guards were Will Allen and Kasey Studdard, and the center was Lyle Sendlein

I left off a lot of Longhorns.....I made that list to show that there were several Longhorns who have done well in the pros....the poster I responded to said only a few Longhorns were successful in the pros. My list was extensive enough to prove my point that the Horns do produce a fairly large number of quality players.

Sure there are guys who don't really live up to the hype like Mike Williams, Quentin Jammer, Winfred Tubbs, Stanley Richard, Chris Akins, Taje Allen, Mike Adams, etc.....

Some guys who weren't really busts, but didn't have long or great careers
Robert Reed (went to my HS and played for the Eagles)
Chris Samuels (went to my HS and played for the Chargers)
Keith and Kerry Cash (they had decent careers, but injuries cut them short)

BTW.....one player I didn't even post, but he was way before Mack Brown and is my fave all-time college player....had a very solid NFL Career (not HOF, but he made a decent impact)....ERIC METCALF

DE Shane Dronett was also before Mack Brown and was a very good NFL player, along with Britt Hager and John Hagy

Oh and if you want old school.....I will give you a few names....

Hey, you don't have to prove you're a Horns fan to me...

Given the weakness along the OL I'd take Blalock and not think twice about it.

I watched his entire career at Texas and in my eyes that means a heck of a lot more than 1 meaningless game with players you have never played with before. Blalock is a damn good lineman and if you watched his career you would not be basing it all on the senior bowl.

I did watch some of his "career"...but against top flight talent (ie..senior bowl)...he was getting abused...if you're the "best" G/T in the draft....you don't get abused regardless of the game.....

Well if we don't jump on either Dielman or Steinbach expect to spend the 1st pick on Blalock or Grubbs...this is the biggest need on the team. I think Jerrah is gonna have a tough time pulling for the wallet this year on a top OG. I'm leaning more towards the draft for Oline.

That is your opinion you’re entitled to it but I disagree. I think it is foolish to throw out an entire college career for 1 game to determine the quality of any player. At Texas he played against some top competition and did a great job and showed the ability to play at both Guard and tackle position

Both Dielman and Steinbach are good players only problem I see with them is their asking price. Seems everyone wants Hutchinson money regardless if they actually deserve that type of cash or not. Unfortunately some team will pay that but I don't know if that is the smartest move

I agree about the need.....but I would rather draft a guy like Beekman in the 2nd and go defense (FS or OLB) in the first.....to me Blalock isn't a sure thing....but i didn't watch every Texas game....but what i have seen of him just isn't so impressive that he is deserving of #22....

and since we all know a line needs time to gel and come together, it's totally fair to take a one-off situation where he's not used to anyone around him and simply bypass 4 years of solid play.

perfect sense.
