In 2003 Quincy Carter had a QB rating of 71.3 for the season. He had a QB rating of 82.0 in the teams 10 wins and a QB rating of 55.4 in the teams 6 losses.

In 2004 Vinny Testeverde had a QB rating of 76.4 for the season. He had a QB rating of 77.4 in the teams 6 wins and a QB rating of 75.9 in the teams 10 losses.

In 2005 Drew Bledsoe had a QB rating of 83.7 for the season. He had a QB rating of 105.4 in the teams 9 wins and a QB rating of 59.8 in the teams 7 losses.

Those stats are telling. I realize stats aren't the only thing, just a tool. I rely more on what I see during a game. I have watched all three of these QBs and teams play over the past few seasons. The stats, my watching the games and throw in my preconcieved notions provides a story about the play of the QBs. Dallas is in better shape. Perhaps not in the best shape, but for the moves Jerry and Bill have made, they are better now than before.

I hope they make a move in the next year or so to provide long term, and I mean 5 to 8 years from now, solutions at the QB spot. A move doesn't mean going and grabbing someone either. They can show faith in one of the young guys and that would be a move. I just hope whatever they do workds.

unintelligible rambling off.

What might you consider a show of faith to be, where our young QBs are concerned?

Those stats tell you one thing and one thing only. Drew is the only one of those three QBs that can actually win a game for you on his own. He's no bus driver.

Drew Bledsoe's number would be much higher if Flozell had not ever gotten hurt or if Rogers wasn't such a huge mangina.

If you go by stats I might suggest that the QB best suited to implement Bill's bus-driver QB strategy would be Vinnie. He was statistically more consistent whether we won or lost.

Said another way, fix the rest of the team and Vinnie will do his part.

Not suggesting that is fact necessarily, and of course 42/43 or whatever he is is now too old, but just saying the stats might suggest this.

I would say not bringing in any questionable competition would be a good start. I like competition, but if they choose to bring in a young QB, I hope it not another undrafted, unknown, little regarded guy. If they bring in someone, it needs to be someone with pedigree or no one at all. Either they think Henson or Romo can do the job or they don't. If in their opinion, neither or one of them can't, then make a move to get someone who can. I think Henson's tour in NFLE will go a long way into part of the decision making much like Hutchinson's tenure.

That might be true if he was consistantly in the 80s with his QB rating. His rating was low no matter what. Stat wise he didn't win or lose games, but watching him play, he lost some or came close. He throws very inopportune interceptions.

Actually, that is not accurate. Quincy, in particular, stepped up and led the Cowboys to victory (i.e., Panthers, 49ers, Giants)

I certainly agree with the premise of the initial poster, that we are better now, but remember, the only reason Q isn't here is because of drugs. Not because he couldn't play.

Quite a shame really.

Well, Vinny was a bus driver. but he drove a little too slow. He was consistent but not good. A 76 QB rating is no good, and it is easier to be consistently mediocre than to have a handful of great games.

Also keep in mind that Drew's rating suffered because he threw at least 2 meaningless picks at the end of halfs and because, near the end of the season in games against NY, WAS, and STL he had zero protection and threw 7 more picks then

When Drew had a bad game - QB rating wise he was getting sacked - his three worst rated games saw him sacked 15 times (!). In Vinny's 3 worst games he was sacked a total of 5 times. Quincy's 3 worst games involved 8 sacks.

Like everyone says -- you protect this guy and he'll produce.

you are correct. but in one year I saw much more of that from Drew than in three from Q.
