I was impressed with Guyton

...this guy, a rookie, went out and played against one of the best in the league.

He wasn't shutting down Garrett. But he maintained his own. He got help from ribby's and TE's.

Few times, I saw him go one on one. I thought, oh no. But he manned his feet under him, and was physical with Garrett.

Great pick up by Dallas.

Agreed. Overall, I was very impressed with BOTH of the rookie offensive linemen in their first start.

The future is looking bright in that area.

He stayed alive. Garrett's lean is so good and so consistent it did present huge issues with Guyton's hand placement.

He got a ton of help but on his one vs ones he really only got beat clean once. I would like him to hold his blocks better after he strikes but MG never got a clean run.

Excellent game to build on.

I think both rookies on the OL did great considering it was there 1st NFL start. The play calling and extra blockers definitely helped but that is what good coaches should do. Unlike Chaz Green against Atlanta a few years ago. The coaching staff totally failed him and the team.

I was really impressed with Guyton. A rookie, first game at LT, playing against the reigning DPOY. Was he perfect? No. Did he get help? Yes. Should that lower your rating of him? Definitely not. This is a guy who has wrecked games for opposing offenses and we mostly kept him in check which should be seen as a huge win. Also, I don't remember Steele's name being mentioned at all which is hopefully a sign he is returning to pre-injury form. Surprisingly, the only lineman I remember getting beat badly was Martin at the very beginning. I guess he was just knocking off some rust though.

It's two things.

1) He was able to stay sticky. Even when he was beat or gave up push, he stayed in contact - never really got beat too clean.
2) He competed. This is kind of a pre-req for #1, but he battled on every snap I think.

The OL wasn't good at all yesterday, but that's probably the best DL they'll face, and should get better with reps.

our rookie phenoms passed the first test with a B+. Thats wonderful considering the opponent. Now they have 16 more tests.

As Broaddus observed, we may have gotten the benefit of Garrett's conditioning not being all the way there.

I'm meh. He survived. He got a lot of help, both by virtue of play design and by virtue of help.

He's got a chance to be good, maybe even very good, just as advertised before the draft. He's probably not going to be a bust.

My proposal is let's pump the brakes on coming to any more conclusion than that, given the whole of the picture yesterday.

conditioning goes both ways
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.

All I know is Broaddus was observing that he thought he saw Garrett winded.

I didn't hear anyone saying they thought they saw Guyton winded, but maybe I'm just not paying good enough attention.

The season is but young so I would gander to think conditioning would factor in on both sides. I could be wrong since no one pointed it out otherwise. I am just taking an uneducated guess here my friend.

I was impressed from a standpoint that you can see a high ceiling for the man, but I don't believe I can say he had a good game without prefacing that this was his first career game. I wish I would have charted the exact number of snaps he had against Garrett when I rewatched the game, but it couldn't have been much more than 10, it seems like Garrett was on Steele 80% of the time.

Guyton got beat a lot, and it would have looked a lot worse had the Cowboys not had such a quick passing game. PFF has Dak as #1 in the league in shortest time to throw at 2.34 seconds per dropback. Garrett beat him pretty consistently to the outside with basic rip moves. ZaDarius Smith drove him back pretty easily with just a bullrush. He seems to have a tendency to bend at the waste instead of dropping his hips, which may have been a fatigue thing, IDK, but its not good.

He will get better, he certainly has the traits you want to see, and he battled all day, but has a lot to get cleaned up.

Guyton was badly outplayed. But its to be expected as garret is the best defensive player in the league. Beebe was solid.

Only about 20% of his snaps were against Garrett. Guyton competed but got beat by nearly everyone.
I can't find a break down like that for his snap count. Seems Garret was lined up over him a lot in the first half. I agree he wasn't good or anything close to Tyron last year.

..right you are, my man. Our Oline hung in there, with at least top ten DLine. Some NFL analyst's said, they picked Cle to win.

Had no idea, Dallas would be that good.

Why wasn't the OL good yesterday? I think they held their own and actually pushed the Browns around physically.
