I watched Skip and Stephen A go at it...

On ESPN's First Take or whatever show it is... and I was wondering...

Does Skip have a point when he said that Garrett could be out after this season?

He did reasonably well after Wade got axed mid season and he's doing okay this season. But, stupid mistakes they eloquently put it may cost him his job. Your thoughts, fellow Zoners?

There's really no chance. He gets at least a couple more years and as long as the wheels don't go flying off, he's not going anywhere then either.

Whether that's good or bad? I dunno.

No, while we are all mad at Garrett, bottom line is he's a very good young head coach. He'll learn from this and move on.

Skip Bayless is a moron. Only time I listen to him is when he's defending Romo or talking **** about LeBron James.

Garrett made a dumb decision, but he's a young coach and he'll learn from this.

Wow, I bet you don't even realize how worthless that makes your opinions on the topic.

I think there's zero chance Garrett gets canned. Hell, Jerry didn't want to fire Wade with the Super Bowl in his stadium and a 1-7 record. As much as everyone thinks Jerry has a quick trigger, he's excercised some patience with the last couple of coaches.

Hey, even the great Dave Campo got 3 years to prove he was in over his head.

I wish we could have a "Like" button. I literally laughed out loud at the last part.

I don't think he's a moron, really. He raised a good point about him being on the hot seat after a strong showing the last month. I tend to think that Stephen A is the more of the loud-mouthed fool.

As the topic states... especially with the revolving door policy seemingly enforced in the NFL these days, I thought he had a point that he could be in a searing hot coach seat when this season is all said and done.

Didn't get a chance to watch the game itself so I watched whatever clips I could on ESPN. Sometimes, I find the analysis a little insightful. Sometimes it's downright hilarious.

Ok so if we get a coach next season and we don't make the playoffs, do we fire him as well?

Is he an experienced head coach or another experiment?

I think the point he's getting at is that for the last three years, we've had a team that can do hurt in the post-season and the fact that we don't is getting tiresome. Players play as well as they are coached.

I am sorry but either you have it or you don't. It doesn't take a 'process' or learning to know that you call that timeout with 26 seconds left and take a couple more shots at picking up yards. All of us who have watched football know it is what you have to do. It is common football sense. It has nothing to do with youth or inexperience - it is about common sense and situational awareness. We can't wait for Garrett to have experienced every possible situation/scenario in an NFL game before he starts to make the right decision. He will be 90 years old by then and we won't win a playoff game.

Should that matter honestly to some of these fans? If we did something stupid to fire a young coach after his first full season ever and bring in a coach and we miss the playoffs again, should we fire that coach as well?

we had a rag on garret thread - how many "he's gone in only 1 full year" threads like this do we need?

geez people. we are NOT the Commanders.

but many of the fans want us to be.

If he's from outside of the organization, no.

We need someone with a fresh voice. Garrett has been here since 2007 and this team is still doing the same garbage they've been doing since he's been coaching here. True enough, he wasn't head coach all of that time, but as offensive coordinator and basically running half of the team while Wade was here is enough for him to have had some influence on the players by now.

Well like I said in a previous thread. I think the December 2009 offense was the best JG has ran besides early 2007 when nobody knew what his offense was like. Dallas made defenses look silly that month and could have done the same against Minnesota in the playoffs if our oline didn't get hurt than self destruct right after that.

so what is the standard here on hiring from within?

if you had "x" number of years in the org you only get "x" number of years as head coach before you must win "x" number of "games" or "superbowls".

i missed how all this worked i suppose.

We're not that much better. And have the standards really lowered to "we're not the Commanders"? We should be setting the standard for the entire league to aspire to instead we are mediocre and it's okay because "we're not the Commanders."
