Well he's got another 5 years in him if he wants to play. In general, there aren't many great TEs in the NFL...he could probably still be a Top-10 TE at age 40. Tony Gonzalez retired at age 37 after he had 800 yards and 8 TDs...he easily could have played another 2-3 years at a high level if he wanted to. I see the same with Witten.

How many 35-year-old tight ends even play every single snap in a game?

Tony Gonzalez played only 85 percent of the snaps when he was 35.

I thought it was one of the hidden stories of the game. Jason Witten, the guy that gets accused of being too slow and not enough of a deep threat over the shiny new toy in Evan Engram who runs a 4.4 forty time.

Engram could end up being a great TE, but at this point he's a 6'3" WR trying to play TE that can't block. So teams can easily play nickel or dime against him and not have to worry about him run blocking against an extra corner or safety. And because he can't pass block, it tips off that he's not likely to stay in to block.

Meanwhile, ole lumbering Witten can run block and pass block and it doesn't tip off plays and it forces defenses to be a bit gunshy in bring nickel and dime packages to defend us.

Well said. Measurables are nice, but ain't nothing better than mastering your craft with skill like Big Wit.

we need a hair sample so we can clone him. I swear he looks like he would run about a 5.2 40...lol However, he makes it look easy.

The Cowboys have been historically blessed at the Tight End spot. Hopefully that will continue!

Maybe it is the football gods repaying us for the Jackie Smith drop!

Don't worry Witten can play from a wheel chair and he would be faster than he is now.
