I was able to remember my entire speech and didn't bring any note cards. You can't have em for Nationals and it was only a two minute speech (longest two minutes of my life). I was incredibly NERVOUS even though most of the people there were my friends and family. I spoke a little too fast and had one fumble -- I noticed it more than anyone else noticed it. I looked at my two best friends and they are both CRYING so I moved around the room with my eyes because if I looked at those two any longer I would have been in tears too. Oh how I love them so much!!
Last years winner told me I spoke a little too fast and didn't sit still (forgot to lock my brakes -- I tend to jump around when I do that), but she said I did better then her last year and with practice I'll be good to go for Nationals. Everyone was impressed that I memorized my speech and incorporated the ADA so much. Mrs. South Dakota says she will work with me on public speaking and she wants me to make some appearances with her. She was one of the judges along with two people who were in chairs. All were super nice!
My opponent was an older women with a neuro muscular disease. She didn't really have a speech prepared -- just winged it and got cut off. I hope she will run again in the future.
My hairstylist came over to my house and did my hair for free. I'll have to take her out for a drink. It turned out gorgeous and one less thing I had to do this morning. I'm exhausted now! Been a long day.
My crown and sash are absolutely gorgeous. My SASH is get this --- COWBOYS colors. It's royal blue with white lettering and a silver border.
I think I'll get a few days off, but then the fund raising and appearances start. I can't wait to visit the rehab floors at the hospitals and the schools. I'm really looking forward to that part. I also want to meet with our representatives. Hopefully with getting a new mayor and a new governor this year we can work on some much needed accessible issues in the city and the state.
I wanted to thank every one here who helped me with speech advice. For my first BIG public speaking event I think I did pretty well. With appearances and help I'm only bound to get better for Nationals.
I'll post some pictures once I get them uploaded.
