I Would Ask These Guys Why We Lack Ferocious Pass Rush

I would consult with D Ware and Charles Haley and ask them which are the best techniques for the current players to create better pass rushes and which players do they like the best. I see Sam Williams and EZ as having the speed to chase down opposing QB's running to the sides trying to buy more time or to run around the defenders for a first down.

I mean Haley usually shows up for camp. I know Ware was in camp in 2023 working with the edge guys in camp.

I'd ask fans why should we expect a ferocious pass rush from this group? Who is the alpha that we expect to bring consistent pressure? You have two good not great interior guys in Clark/OSA who can get after the passer, but this is also where teams seem to be shifting their protection towards too. The edge guys we have are simply lacking a top player.

Fowler - His best years have been as a situational pass rush specialist
Williams - Has never had more than 200 pass snaps in a season. Low sample size for the hype he was getting this offseason, especially for coming of the injury
Ezeiruaku - Rookie and pass rushers typically take some time to develop at this level. The results after 4 weeks should not be surprising.
Clowney - This is the hope. I think he fits what Eberflus wants to do. I think can add a well rounded DE to this depth chart, but in terms of pure pass rush ability I think he is more good, not great.

It really feels like with this group that we will see flashes of great pass rushes at times based on the athleticism of some of the young guys paired with a couple of steady/reliable type veterans, but we will also go through long stretches where it feels like the QB has all day to throw if we keep this ultra vanilla scheme.

Now days these players don't respect/relate to these older players. I find it to be odd, but these players think they know everything, and should want help from someone who was once great at their position

So you’re saying our coaches suck lol

Millennials lol

Maybe.....hear me out here......just maybe......pass rush requires more than just speed?

it's funny, i'm with you 100 pct, and was nodding along enthusiastically, but honestly when you started listing the players (despite the rational takes) they are a group that inspires enthusiasm.

But we “fixed” our run game when we traded Micah.

Nevermind the fact we gave up 164 yards rushing and 2 TDs to the Packers.

We didn't fix anything with that trade. The potential value of that trade is going to be determined by the 2 first round picks and not Kenny Clark. Clark is a 1 year rental at best. Parsons was a casualty of how this GM has mismanaged things. Now we can claim that Parsons wasn't worth this or that but let's not pretend like this team isn't largely made up of dudes who have been overpaid and aren't living up to their contract.

I agree there is some reason for optimism with that group....I just think its going to be a bit of a roller coaster with EZ and Williams week to week.

No need. We are playing a zone, no blitz scheme.
It is widely known to produce less sacks and pressure.
Rushers remain lane gap responsibilities and focus on run stops then forcing passes out underneath coverage.

The hilarious part is that it is supposed to prevent big plays.

Yeah...that part is not working!!

#41 is a stud and doing well. Getting better every week. Clowney will help as well. I know you’ve given up, but I haven’t until mathematically eliminated. Many here are hoping for that to happen soon.

I know you want to change topics away from actual football conversations, and instead try to bait people into being "haters" so you can prove how much better of a fan you are....I'm not taking the bait though.

Ezeiuraku is fine, but the kid is far from a stud and fans putting that label on a 2nd round pass rusher are the problem. Young pass rushers take time to develop and history shows that to be the case. Last year outside of Jared Verse I'm not sure that any rookie edge player had a major impact on their team. The previous year was a little stronger but outside of Will Anderson I don't see a huge impact player. Aiden Hutchinson the year before that, and Parsons back in 2021 although he was technically a LB then. There seems to be a pretty consistent theme of high end 1st round pick adjusting to the NFL pretty well early on. Later guys can have roles, but history strongly suggests to tap the brakes.

If you want to have an actual objective football conversation on the topic I'm all for it and would love nothing more. If you want to tell me how good a fan you are while suggesting I've given up for not having the opinion that a 1 win football team is doing everything perfectly then honestly you might as well just put me on ignore. I could care less about your desire to start fights and "own the haters". I'll be quick and vague here as to hopefully not violate a rule but I really hope you can find a source of peace in your life as you truly show a ton of hate in your heart for other people on this board and love to bring them down. I'd encourage you to end the corruptive talk, but only say what is good for building up that may give grace to those who hear.

Can’t handle the truth huh. Rhetorical question. Oh, and I did talk football.
