I would have traded a 7th rounder for Andy Lee

Andy Lee’s days with the San Francisco appeared to be numbered as soon as the 49ers selected a punter in the fifth round of this year’s NFL Draft.

Now his time in the Bay Area is over. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, the Cleveland Browns are trading a 2017 seventh-round draft pick to the 49ers in exchange for Lee.

Lee, 32, is the longest tenured member of the 49ers. He was selected in the sixth-round of the 2004 NFL Draft and spent his entire year with San Francisco up to this point. Lee is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and first-team All-Pro. Lee has never missed a game during his 11-year career and has a lifetime average of 46.2 yards per punt.

I realize we just extended our guy and Lee's contract is expensive overall but he's one of the best punters in the game and had been available since the niners spent a 5th on a punter.

It just seems like every time Chris Jones punts, it's average hang time and average length. But he seems to draw a lot of fair catches.

We need all the cap space for Dez. Don't need expensive punters when we have one.at a decent price.

I don't know about trading for a punter but I do think they could use an upgrade. I always hear and read that Jones has got a huge leg but I never see it. Maybe it's just me but his punting is pretty weak in alot of games but I don't think he's the guy that's going to win or lose the game

The difference between Jones and Lee likely wouldn't change much.

When's the last time the Cowboys brought in a kicker or punter that wasn't either a rookie or 1 year guy who didn't find a team yet? Vanderjagt? We simply don't pay for other people's kickers it seems. We home grow them.

I can't imagine where you might be hearing this from but everything I've read and heard points to him as being fairly average in his leg strength. There are probably those around who would be an improvement over Jones but the staff has remained content enough with his punting to keep him around, nevertheless. I feel he started out not having the extent of consistency that he does presently but managed to have improved in that department. In the past, many of us (myself included) got spoiled with the punting of Mac McBriar. He was really a tough act to follow.

Jones is more than just a serviceable punter. He is a very valuable holder on FGs and extra points.

Chris Jones makes 1 million per year and Andy Lee makes 2.5 million per year? Holy crap.
I have 3 sons. What I am doing on the Internet on Sunday afternoon.....see you guys later...
I'm taking the boys out to get them started on a very lucrative career with little injury risk and no special athletic ability....everyone wants to be the QB...forget that. Punter is where it's at.

Dez's deal will save cap space. We don't need space to get this done.

New rule: Don't discuss cap space if you don't understand cap space
