I'd treat Thursday as my dress rehearsal

With the long week before the regular season begins, Thursday would not be a throw away for me.

I understand coaches are loathe to risk injury and I understand they prefer to use the 2 week period as game prep for week 1.

I'd ignore all that because of where this team is currently and what all it needs to accomplish.

I'd go into that game with a nothing to lose and everything to gain mentality.
This team needs to believe it can beat someone and I would be dead finished with being a floor mat for another team to gain confidence off of.

My starters would play one half of football and if we were not ahead they may take the first series of the 3rd quarter as well. I'd rotate my top 8 available DL much like the regular season. I'd play as much like game 1 as possible. I'd get my returning guys snaps so they can get in football shape.

At some point you gotta set a tone. I don't think you can waltz in week 1 and expect to out-tough San Fran if you've spent all training camp and pre-season playing spares and resting or protecting starters. I'd gout and punch Denver in the mouth Thursday because they have everything to lose and nothing to gain from this meaningless game. Whereas Dallas has everything to prove starting with to themselves.
Seahawks played their 1s tonight. Not surprised, it matches their fearless personalty. The Cowboys need a change at the top. The team practices, plays, and coaches scared.

Melton and Claibourne should have gotten a couple of series in.

Of course you are right. Melton hasn't played in a year. Clai has missed about a 1/3 of practice time since being drafted. These guys should have played. We're not good enough to have such a nonchalant attitude towards preseason/practice.

agree. these guys get so mollycoddled here and they get hurt anyway and we make them soft, its just sickening culture.

Reminds me of the culture at UT the last few years under Mack Brown. Charlie Strong has changed that in one offseason, pushing all players to their limits. Players aren't allowed to sit out due to nicks and bruises anymore. Cowboys desperately need someone like that.

Can you at least wait for them to fail this season before calling them out?

Frankly, if anyone is scared it is Cowboys fans. This forum reeks of panic.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll interviewed this morning with 710 ESPN Seattle radio. Topics ranged from the NFL calling the Seahawks to admit Tharold Simon‘s illegal contact penalty should not have been called to fans worrying about Earl Thomas returning punts. “It’s another football play,” said Carroll, “You can worry all you want. I don’t live in the world of worrying what could go wrong.”

Fuzzy you are too smart of a poster and too in tuned with what's going on around the league to not see the train wreck that's incoming.

Regardless of what happens this season, I do not like how they have coddled Claiborne. I think he's naturally a passive person who lacks confidence in himself and his body and we have done nothing to help him break thru that mental hurdle. A tougher head coach would have demanded more out of him, and in turn would have made him a better player than what we've seen so far.

Great vision J however if the teams can't get sky high up for game one then.......
And it is what it is. This team is in no position to dress rehearse vs live tackling yet. Starters are still in the dress rehearsal for the dress rehearsal. And after all that I still am optimistic about a home win on opening day.

meanwhile people on here skip a heartbeat anytime someone breathes on tony. like @reddyuta said the culture here is sickening. especially when you broaden your horizons by watching and observing other teams and how they run things. niners ran a flea flicker up 24-6 in today's preseason game. where is that gusto from dallas?

Pre season Fleaflickers will all be forgotten faster than a dog flicks a flea once players and fans alike wake to opening game day.

I get that there is quite the curve ahead and we don't have the best train I have ever seen but the train hasn't gone off the rails quite yet.

What I think is that trainers and doctors are having more influence on games than ever before. This is primarily due to the concussion issue. It's the same reason they are 'coddling' Okoye and Spencer or anyone else that has an injury. We have had at least a dozen people out for injury each preseason game to this point.

If Claibornes MRI shows the tear and inflammation from an AC sprain then it is what it is. You can try to tell a tale of past glory and how things used to be but the days of discounting the possibility of disability and long term health effects are over.

Generally sprains take a few weeks to recover. It is what it is.

I also am not convinced that ignoring medical advice would be a good thing. If anything, I think Claiborne's body is unable to handle the collisions in the NFL. I still think it makes more sense to actually wait for Claiborne's status for next Sunday before I become concerned.

There is the Bear Bryant school of thought where you grind every last bit as quick as you can. Then there are more modern takes like Walsh, Gibbs, and Vermeil where you are not that aggressive in your training.

To me it comes down to whether or not the guys particularly on the lines play hard, physical football.

What do you think of the Cowboys cutting Webb? He was one that I thought lacked courage. Wilson is another one who I though played scared of the OT. He was cut. Wilber has been weak taking on blocks and at the poa and he played in the romper room tonight for a half. Carter pouts and is benched

Claiborne himself is only starting because Scandrick us hurt and hasn't been the clearcut starter for over a season to this point. I think his soft coward routine vs the run is a big part of that.

Garrett marginalizes the weak and cowardly.

Unless a true coward, a baptism of fire changes a lot of character faults and traits.

I really wonder how many people really look at other teams play and performance. I tend to bet on most teams other than dallas and it did give me a different perspective than when I only watch Dallas

What does risking injury and playing in this game do? It does absolutely nothing. Did you see who the Bronco's had out there?
