Everyone keeps talking bout drafting a CB with a #1...but what about trading one of those picks for a young, proven CB. Cromartie is the only one who really comes to mind, but (like trading a #1 for Roy Williams) we could get a young guy who is proven rather than risk a bust.

I don't know if anybody out there is worth a number one, but this team is built to win right now. There is no room for project players in the first round IMO.

I think a bigger problem would be finding a team who would want to trade a good young corner to us. If corners were easy to find we wouldn't need one year after year. I doubt any team out there is willing to trade a good corner since they are such a rare commodity.

I dont think any team would be willing to part with a good young CB, being that they are hard to find, for one 1st round pick.

But IF we can find a trade partner willing to do that, I am all for it.

How 'bout this? Trade both 1st rounders: 1 for a young proven CB and the other for Roy Williams/WR!!!

I know it's impossible, but a man can dream....right?

First you'd have to find a team with a glut of quality corners.

I'm not sure that team exists.

Failing that, you'd have to find a team with a corner soon to be a free agent, who they can't resign and would like to get something for. The downside of that is the upside of this corner is probably going to be much less than the available first round corners taken when we pick. Also, we'd have to give this player a new contract, likely inflated, rather than have a player on his rookie contract for 4 years.

This is a deep CB class. We'd be well served just staying put and drafting a good corner. Aaron Ross was a big part of NY's run. There's no reason to think we can't have similar success drafting a first round corner to ease into the nickel.

THere are only 3 CBs that would be a serious improvement on what we have now: samuals, Trufant, And that guy from Oakland with the weird name.
Weird name will almost certainly be franchised; Samuals wants what clement got and he aint worth it; so that leaves Trufant and he is not going to be cheap either. SO FA is pretty much out for CBs. And no one is going to trade a good one. So we have to go to the draft.

I agree with this approach. I wouldn't mind signing a guy if we could but to me, I think drafting a quality CB is a solid move for us. I wouldn't mind taking a couple of CBs in this draft. I like Newman and Henry as starters and if we could draft a solid CB as the third Corner, then I even think Reeves would probabaly make a good 4th Corner option. However, we have some young guys that we drafted last year and if they have progressed, maybe they are options. Regardless, I like the idea of drafting a good young CB early in this draft.

I don't think there is a team out there that will do that. But I do think that we need to come out of the first day of the draft with 2 CBs, a Wr and a RB.

As much as I'd like to, I don't see re-signing Newman to a big contract. It would be foolish to give hime the big contract he deserves because of his age. He deserves a Clements type, 5 year, $80 million contract, but is to old for it. That would put him at over 35 years old at the enf of the contract.

We saw this year how injuries are starting to creep in. He had the Plantar thing and also battled a knee for a good part of the season.

Totally agree. Corners that are good and worth having are too hard to find. You're not going to find any takers for that deal. At least not a #1 that is that low down the draft board. Now maybe if your #1 was in the top five, you might find a few takers, but even then I would be doubtful on it.

A first round rookie cb is going to be better than anybody a team is going to trade you. I just don't understand why anyone would be against drafting a cb in the first round in a very deep year for cornerbacks.

Why you have 2 young CB's hitting the market if you willing to pay

Samuel and Trufant

I prefer Trufant myself from Seattle; those guys may get locked up who knows

Trufant will likely get tagged. Seattle has nothing else really to worry about losing over him.

The main reason they aren't willing to pay these guys is that they've already got a lot invested in Newman and Henry and they're looking to bring in a 3rd guy. I dont think Jerry really wants to put the huge bucks into another corner, to go along with what he'll have had to spend on his safety positions if he keeps Hamlin.

Hmm, never thought about teams needing to have a surplus in order to be willing to part ways with one. good stuff.
