What kind of team are we?
Do we run to set up the pass?
Do we pass to setup the run?
Do we play zone defense?
Do we crowd the line and challenge opposing WRs?
Are we going to grind it out?
Do we use our air game to force opposing offenses to match it?
Do we play better on the road?
Is there such thing as home field advantage in AT&T Stadium?
Who is this team? Just when you think you might have them figured out, they shape-shift and throw any bit of continuity to the wind. That brings me to the all important word. "continuity"... Where is it? Are these players invested in something that they can all rally around? Something they know will be the thing that consistently drives the team every week?
Let's scratch the whole "they are playing with guys off the street therefore they fail" ideology. Every single team in the league plays with injury and fills holes in a variety of ways over the course of a grueling season. We are no different than anyone else. The upward trending teams tend to generally make the right decisions to maintain that continuity while the downward trenders usually screw up more than they fix. There is absolutely no excuse.. None.. for failing to mount any pressure at all on McCown. I saw a blatant lack of creativity on the defensive line last night. It very much resembled the lack of creativity around consistently providing ways to get Dez open in space.
We lack an identity as a team and the basic creativity necessary to win the measurable number of small battles that take place within the confines of a game. I hope we find a way to get it together. We still have a few weeks to find our stride. Who knows what will happen against GB? That result is about as predictable as our team identity.
