i bet he kicked *** live didn't he?

Yes. It was colder than hell that day. Arena seating meant standing in line outside waiting for the doors to open. It was snowing and the wind was blowing at least 30 mph. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Unless you wanted to tote your winter coat around all night you stood there in indoor clothes and frooze. We passed around a bottle because the beer was freezing. Once we found our seats I bought a Ozzy jersey t shirt and we rocked all night. The next few days all I could think about was that show and how good it was. Easily the best I had ever seen to that point. Simply unbelievable. A week later I was at work just doing my thing a friend told me he heard on the radio about the accident. I called the station and heard the horrible news. To this day I can remember all those events crystal clear. While Ozzy has had a great career I will always wonder how things would be different if Randy wouldn't have died. But I also consider myself extremely fortunate to have seen him just a few days before hand.

He was here in OKC about 3 weeks before the accident with UFO opening the show. Randy was an amazing guitarist who made it look effortless and at times his playing was so fluid It was almost reminiscent of a violinist. You could just tell he was going to be the next big thing as far as guitarists go and then the accident happened all because of some idiot pilot. Sad. I believe in QR you could tell he was good but was still finding his way and with Blizzard you saw a big jump as well as a big jump from blizzard to diary in his playing as well as compositional skills.
Im going to put this here for all to enjoy its a guitar track only for DOAM which is a truly a showcase for RR.

I always loved RR playing as well as EVH. Randy was more regimented and on the other hand Edwards was more off the cuff spontaneous a sort of a mad scientist approach to his playing.

UFO opened the show I saw also here in Wichita. When I heard Blizzard for the first time I almost fell over. After Dairy I envisioned several more albums that would make him the unquestioned best guitar player of all time.

Yes I believe he had just scratched the surface of what was possible. I have heard that during the diary tour Randy was actually tired of rock and wanted to branch out to other areas namely classical guitar.......that and whatever town he was in he would seek out a classical teacher and take a lesson and more often than not ended up being better and giving the lesson instead of receiving it.

Hey BD, this is away from the subject, but I didn't know you are from Wichita. I have a big chunk of family there, although sadly I don't anyone still alive up there. My dad's family is from Kansas. He was born in Lawrence, then my grandpa became an offshore fisherman and moved them up and down the Gulf Coast for years afterward. Anyway, it doesn't matter, just wanted to mention that. The internet opens up the world to us, especially to those of us who do not travel, and I always found that fascinating.:)

tribute to one of the best guitar players ever..life cut way...way too short.

Something weird about this Crazy Train video... at 2:58 in the video they cut to Rudy Sarzo playing bass during a guitar solo in stop action... then Ozzy, then when they cut to Rhoades, he is playing against a blue curtain... weird...

btw... you are right... one of the best to ever play. He melded classical talent with metal edge... all in a 5' 4" package... stood tall among his peers...

I like some of his songs, but not a huge fan of the theater metal genre...

I'm a really different cat... in my car you may hear Scorpions, then Sinatra, then Opera, Boston then classical...

Here in Austin on Sunday evenings, you can go to The Oasis, which sits above Lake Travis, and hear some great Latino music while watching a great sunset...

Families and friends all dancing together having a great time... good is good...
