If Bowers falls to #40.. Take him or not?

I just don't see the fit. He'd be a nice player to have, but I couldn't justify the taking him at 40.

He's not a fit.
If he was, YES.
At this point, the injury risk is way worth an eitle player like that...but not in a 3-4.

IMO Risking the #40 pick is worth it for a top 3 talent in the draft.

That is just crazy. Top 3 talent doesn't slide to round 2.

He was pretty much consensus top 3 a few months back, before Newton and Gabbert inexplicably rose up draft boards Dareus or Bowers was the argument for #1.

I don't completely get the fit thing.

We're perfectly happy playing Spears or Olshansky on first down and subbing them out on most second-and-medium or second-and-long situations (and essentially all 3rd downs)...because they fit the base defense. But we play out of a four down linemen set somewhere like 40-50% of the time, but we aren't willing to spend a second on a potentially game-breaking pass rusher?

I don't get it. He'd be an average, slightly out of position 5-tech and an exceptional rush end out of the nickel.

All this ignoring the injury concerns, of course, which might be more than enough to pass. The fit thing seems overwrought to me.

The injury isn't supposed to stop him from being all that he was this past year at Clemson. It "might" shorten his career if there's arthritis.

In the top 10, you want a healthy player who can practice every day and play every down and who projects for 8-10 years if he pans out.

Second round, if this guy plays like he did at Clemson for only 6 years, he's a great addition, even if you don't play him every down and even if at some point you have to rest him during practice.

For years Charles Haley seldom practiced due to his back, but he was lights out on Sunday. We probably won't take Bowers at 40, but someone will take him in round 2, and he's going to be a great player in the NFL.

Same here. I hope the Lions get him.

part. That only applies to high first round picks, and even so, Denver just proved that it really doesn't mean much.

I'm concerned about the knee situation. I'm going to be honest and say that I haven't followed this as close as most because I didn't think we get a chance to draft him. The first thing that I want to know is what type of " knee issues " does he have ? The reason why I'm asking is because I know they haven't played any games since the season ended and this guy was the consensus #1 pick in the draft as late as March. He had a " pro day " at his school where they just showed his highlight and he showed absolutely no problems doing anything. So is this a degenerative issue ? Something that happened after the workouts ? Would it affect his career right away ? If the answer is: " well, he might not last 10 years in the league and at some point in the future he'll have no more cartilage ", I'm pulling the triger at #40 for him without a doubt.

I don't care if he only gives me 6-8 years worth of football.

Bowers needs more surgery...so no

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/203591/football-headlines?r=1

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen both confirm that Da'Quan Bowers' slide out of round one was due to the fact that last year's NCAA sacks leader will likely need more knee surgery.

"He's still got looseness in his MCL, and his PCL," reported Schefter. "Teams think he'll need (more) surgery." On Thursday, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported that Bowers has a "bone-on-bone" condition in his already surgically repaired knee, which sounds to us like microfracture is a definite possibility in the near future. Don't be surprised if Bowers continues to plummet today
